EGT gauge loom lambda sensor plug removal

I need to remove the lambda sensor plug from the EGT gauge loom so i can feed it through the bulkhead,
HTF do you get the pins out, i have tried all sorts here this evening

It depends somewhat on the design of the plug.  For the ones I have:

You need 2 small flat blade watchmaker's screwdrivers if you haven't got the "proper tools".  Slide them down the sides of the connectors and lever each one slightly  to push in the retaining latches.  You have to get both of them in together.  Yes, it's very tricky and most frustrating!!

I've been searching all over for a description or picture of the extraction tool that Gary has, to no avail.
I guess it all comes down to how long you want to fight the thing for, a new plug is a little over a fiver.

I do everything at the same price as the Webshop And I keep most things like plugs in stock

You most likely won't need a new plastic shell.  If I get frustrated with these things, I find giving the wires a short sharp pull will remove the pin from the shell by bending the pins.   (Either that or the wire comes off the pins )

You then just crimp on new pins and refit after putting the wires where you want them.

BTW can we have the rounds without the connectors fitted please - this is not the first time this issue has happened.

what is the button for on the front of the screen?

I bench tested my gauge to day so i know it works, (thought i had better before i cut the wires off the plug  )
scratched my head for a bit working out why one of the plugs had a live wire and an earth and went no where  , so looked at the other plugs on the loom and found a plug that was its oposite, pushed them together and the gauge lit up, (i know it is silly but may be an idea to note that on the install instructions,)
i didnt want to start conecting plugs together in case i buggered up the board in the gauge,

Yeah the size of the plug is a bit of a bugger. Becasuse I wasn't keeping it installed permanently I routed the wire outside and through the door seal. I also asked about being supplied without the connector fitted, but then how do the VEMS guys know you will install them correctly? However if you chose to remove the plug from a tested and working unit then its up to you but you have no comeback on the suppliers.

The button scrolls through the display options. lambda - AFR - degC - deg F.

Extraction tools look a bit like very fine tweezers. Normally even jewellers screwdrivers won't fit as they flat section isn't long enough unless you grind it back a bit. Even then they aren't really flexible enough, The prongs on a proper tool are spring steel so they flex as they are inserted to pust the tags down.

But before you ask I don't own any. We used to have several types where I used to work. I'll try and find out where we got them from

i have no worries about rewiring the plug,
as i wired my car up from a bare shell,
