Wirig Evo 4-9 Coil packs

I'm trying to use some coil packs like Sweeps, but I dot know how to wire them in as there is 3 terminals in the plug socket.
I don't fancy blowing them or me up as they are brand new.
Also any one know where I can get the loom connectors from easily?

Update, been looking about on the net, If I look into the connector on the coil, is the left pin power, middle not used and right for ground?

Do you not have the connectors as shown on Sweeps' photo there?

If you can get me a pic of the coil connectors I'll see if I can find anything in my extensive collection of JDM plugs

A typical coil will have 2 pins, one will be for 12v feed, the other will be for ground via the ecu.

A coil pack like this will have 3 pins - one for 12v and the other two for ground via the ecu.

The way you'd find the right pins would be to measure resistance: pin1 to pin2, pin1 to pin3, and pin2 to pin3. 
Two resistances would read the same, and the other would be the sum of the resistances.
For example on the MSD wasted spark pack I have: 1 to 2 is 0.6ohm, 1 to 3 is 1.2ohm, and 2 to 3 is 0.6ohm.

You have a problem in that you've got three pins.
It should be possible to find the common power feed to the coils as its the one wire that goes to both coils.

Once you have that you need to measure the resistance between the common and other two pins.  And measure the resistance between the other pins.

There is a possability that the extra pin is used for misfire detection, but we can't discount the possability that these are coils with built-in igniters, which use a low current signal to drive them.  The resistance measurements should show this.

So people know how to wire them I did this:

Lookig into connector on coil pack, with spark bit pointing down,
Pin 1 on left is Power
Pin 2 in middle is Ground
Pin 3 on right is meant to be switched power

Pin 1 and 2 are meant to be connected permanently and pin 3 controls the spark according to Mitsubishi, but as I don't know how to set that up in Vems I have ground switched instead.

Only problem I seem to have now is all the fuel seems to want resetting?
I don't understand why I need to retune it all? As is was running ok on a ford coilpack!

Sounds like these have the igniter built-in, are you getting a good spark doing things this way?
You shouldnt have to do any fuel changes - are you sure that your sensors are all correctly powered - as you are having issues with 5v which is the lifeblood of all the sensors.

Yea they all seem ok, was just that Pin 28 wire grounding on something?

I had to bump the fuel up by about 10 around the idle bit to get it to fire, I tried to drive it but couldn't really.
Seems to be running quite lean now?
Could it be the new coils burning the fuel to well and making it lean?

Its not an igniter just a transistor turning the coil on so to speak. Just breaks and up breaks the ground.

Did you move your TPS at all?

An igniter is a transistor, you can drive it from the stepper outputs if you want to get it done correctly - and I think its worth doing that tbh.

Maybe that's why the car is running like a POS?
Its almost like I got pre-ignition or something?

What wires do I need to swap on the ECU end of the loom?
Also what settings should I change on MT?


I do think I still got some wiring issues somewhere, the relays were having a spazzy fit earlier when no key in the ignition :S Although its all new wiring on the ECU side of things :S

So I now connect the wire that went to ground to the switched live pin instead then?
So Pin 1 = Fixed Live
Pin 2 = Fixed Ground
Pin 3 = Switched + wire from ECU? (EC18-pin4 and EC18-pin10)

Just letting you know I have the car working as good as it did before!
I have even upped the fuel around idle a bit and it fires up quick now  ;D

So to confirm to others How to wire in Mitsubishi Evo 4 - 9 Coil packs do the following

Looking into the coil pack connector, with the spark boot pointing down.
Pin 1 = Fixed Live
Pin 2 = Fixed Ground
Pin 3 = Switched Live

To do pin 3 I removed the Normal switched ground wires wire from the ECU end of the Loom (Pin 34 and 36 on the EC36 connector)
Then plug them into EC18-pin4 and EC18-pin10 In same order.
