Please identify pins on these Subaru coils
« on: February 23, 2008, 03:39:45 pm »
I think the number 22438 AA031 might be for an onboard igniter?
Are they VEMS compatible?
Will they sustain a 4AGE at 8000+rpm?

That looks like its got the igniter built-in to it.
I just checked my Subaru coil pack and it has Red which is common to both coils (+12V) then a white wire to ground one coil and a white wire with a red stripe for the second one.

A quick google for DIS4-03 shows that this is a Hitachi igniter pack.  Can you get to the wires on the other (coil) side of the pack as you wont need to run that.   They seem to be quite quick coils, IIRC about 3ms charging time.

Mucho JoyJoy, the coil pack wires are visible here.
Theres no plug to allow tehm to be detached, theyll have to be cut close to the igniter and extended.
Usual resistance check should show which wire is which.
I suspect red is 12v and the others are coil 1 & 2.

Result - you can do one of two things:
Use the red and yellow wires driven directly from the VEMS IGBTs.
Use the igniter from the Stepper outs.

I was doing some tests last night (directed by Jorgen, or I'd have electrocuted myself or blown something up!) and found that the Nissan SR20 uses the Hitachi DIS4-04 which will need to be driven from the Stepper outputs.
