Less pr.trig error under load.
« on: April 22, 2015, 03:32:09 am »
Hey,

I started driving my E30 today. It's a M20, with the VR sensor, GM coils running wasted spark Firmware is 1.1.95. While I was cruising on the highway, I got Less Pr.Trig errors under load. The VEMSdisplay started freezing and restarting whenever it happened. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas as to why this happens? I have a log of when it occurs. But am not sure how to attach it.

Thanks,

Sam

Hello SamE30,

To get some idea of what is going on (most likely ignition noise superimposed on GND or VR signal) please provide a triggerlog of engine cranking without IGN and INJ fuse for 8-10 seconds, please make a sharing report from VemsTune and provide link to this here, you can also attach your other vemslog there.

Best regards, Dave

Perfect, I will do this today at lunch.

I also wanted to note that it only starts doing it after driving for a while. And when it starts doing it, it progressivly gets worse. I also noticed it only started happening when I wired my tachometer to the stepper output, I don't know if it's a coincidence or not.

98% one of ign coil is bad.

I was speaking with Sascha and he looked over a log and my config. I had the VR trigger set to falling instead of rising. I'm going to see if this fixes it tonight. In the mean time I'll get a trigger log and post it up tonight.

Filtering shouldn't be enabled with VR multi tooth correct?

Hi Sam,

Your report does not contain triggerlog or vemslog, could you attach these to your current sharing report ?

Best regards, Dave

I attached a trigger log when cold. I also attached a vemslog of when it happens, it progressively gets worse and worse once it starts happening. It seems to be after about 15 minutes of driving.

The only thing I did recently is connect the Tach to the stepper output like I had mentioned before.

Correcting from falling to rising didn't change the issue either.

Hello Sam,

Reviewed your triggerlog, no anomalies there; Most likely cause ignition noise, check your coilpack, ignition cables and sparkplugs for any HV leaks to GND.

I have checked for shorts to ground within the HC leads, and plugs with no luck. I purchased a new ignition coil and systematically swapped it whenever the trigger error occured and it came back fairly quickly.

I'm running 3 GM 2 tower coils. I've heard from the MS guys that they are prone to lots of ignition noise causing resets. Have you heard of this?

Whenever the error occurs the whole VEMS resets and goes into afterstart mode.

i know some guys are putting capacitor between ignition coil + and - to suppres noise :)

Can you elaborate? Is this only with GM coils?

I changed the coils and plug wires. Still nothing.

I did a trigger log of the issue while it occurs.
