rs-232 wiring
« on: July 19, 2012, 09:39:41 pm »
trying to find a problem i am having with my serial connection to my vems.

And trying to rule out some questions first.

Should the earth wire (pin 5) on the serial port go to the ecu ground or SV2 header pin 3?

Whats the best wire to use for wiring the serial port....ie does it need to be shielded, and what is the best gauge wire to use.

cheers

scott

It should go to the ECU ground.
I have used shielded microphone cable (as it has two wires and a ground), CAT5 network cable, and multicore shielded cable.
Using some thick core microphone cable has always suited me best.
