i now got my GPS position correct by altering section-gpsdata.ini and calculating the error between vemstune & my gps position.

I've also changed the k/ph reading to mph so i can understand it better.

Just means altering the knots to k/ph reading to mph and changing the gauge in vemstune.

easy.....hmmmm

Suddenly thought i could also use my mobile phone for the internet....so using joikuspot to share the mobile web to my netbook.

So now i can use the GPS & web from my phone to my netbook to work with vems......

Just need to get my engine back together for some serious logging and tuning.....roll on summer....

yes, ive just bought the serial (DB9 & PS/2) version of this unit......

I've ran it with my PC and its a good unit, even locks on in the house.

I've bought the BD9 & PS/2 version as the new v1.1.89 shows it can log directly from the serial port either when laptop is not connected or on the second com port.

i've also just fitted the removal SD card for logging, which works a treat.

As i hopefully plan to log most of my drives with GPS this year, without having my netbook attached.....

Either way i think you can get smaller GPS units but the one i got fits my purpose.

I got the evermore GM-R700 unit.

Wow, 4 years! haha

Anyway, dusted off the GPS receiver, made adapter cable from PS2 to USB for the power, and got this working, but alas I too have an incorrect Longitude position.

Any more detailed explanation on how you resolved this please?........... I currently have an Error Report on the go

wow, glad someone else has got it working, not sure how many people ever used this feature in VEMS, but I always thought it was a great feature.

Never got it working over firmware 1.1.89 though, which firmware are you using.

here is how to fix it for the time being, as there is an error in the location, I asked vems to fix it 2-3 years back, so good luck with it.

Find this file in the vems directory.

section-gpsdata.ini

open it up in wordpad.

look for this line and change it for the line below.

longitudeDec   =   {  floorLong + ( longitude - floorLong )  / 60  * 100 -3.02653 }

then save the file and exit wordpad.

Load your vemstune and you should have a -3.02653 offset in the longitude gps, which should put your position correct.

Keep a copy of the file you changed, as everytime you load a new vemstune you will need to copy it back.

Not using my vems at the moment, as my v8 is getting another re-build due to it dropping a liner, hopefully back on the road this summer though, good luck and hope it all works for you.

Keep me posted about the error report and I hope they do fit it this time.

regards

scott

That's a great help! But, there is clearly something funky going on in VemsTune. That correction value seems to put me in the Irish sea :o

Its funny because the GPS comms config window shows the real GPS position, so it is down to how VemsTune is calculating away from raw data.

I'll have a play with it and post back :)

OK so I 'tuned' the error correction for me to -0.66676 and I'm no longer getting my feet wet ;D

Great, glad it worked, I used to drive around in the north Sea before I corrected it.....

Just hope they truly fix it this time.
