hello all,

Was bored today with nothing to do so thought i would try and do something with my vems & gps.

I found a way to use the built in gps receiver on my nokia n85 mobile phone and bluetooth.

I got i connected in vemstune, and it shows all the gps information, and the map is showing my location.

This looks like a nice feature that most people could use without knowing it...

Just thought i would post and if anyone else want to try it let me know.

I cant test drive it at the mo, as my winter upgrades are in progress...and its going to be summer before it get to use it.

hiya,

well if you have bluetooth on your laptop also, with the built in gps receiver on your phone you can get vemstune to use the gps data.

you will need to go here and download the file extgps for your phone.

send the file to your phone and install it, run it and click yes to using extgps twice.

then you will need to make a new bluetooth connection to your phone using the extgps as a service, this should then give you a com port number.

when connected to your phone using bluetooth use the comm port number in vemstune gps settings, and set a 9600 speed.

you can then set the gps screen in vemstune from the view-group menu, then you can click the gps icon to starting using the positioning.

I got it, but can´t seem to get a lock on my n97 mini.

But i´m not exactly outside . I´ll give it some more go though

might be a problem with the longitude readings in vemstune....as mine shows -0.683 in the window......but my phone shows 1.318....

when i connect the phone on com6....under the gps connection the longitude readings are correct....but they are not correct in the gps screen, so may be a bug.

Othewise the connection method works fine, and should be a cheap gps option for most people, dare say you could use a usb gps reciever the same way too.

Took me a few hrs to work it out and cant wait to try it driving....but i've got a long wait till summer....

I am using latest vemestune 22-12-10....so maybe someone else can try older versions to see if they are better.

It works,
but it´s saying I´m quite far away from where I am in reality.

Not sure if it´s the map or the data.

same as me then.....will try older version of vemstune tomorrow...

Otherwise looks like a bug in the longitude readings.

if your check your gps coordinates in your phone, they will be correct.....just in vemstune....latitude is correct, longitude is wrong....

went out today in my tintop with my netbook to test the vems & gps.....

Connected vems & the gps on my phone and took a log in vemstune...

But as i thought there must be a problem the way vemstune is logging the GPS signal...

As my picture shows i travelled through the sea.....hmmm.

How can i check the readings that vemstune is logging?



Can anyone help?

One other problem with the VEMS and GPS (not same as the topic, but I don´t want to make new one for that).
I have Lenovo S10 (model: 11G3G - type: 4239-2RG) laptop and it has built in GPS. It works with Garmin and I use my laptop as navigator, but the Vemstune doe´s not recognice the GPS reciever.
I have tested different baud rates, but it still doe´s not recognice it, what to test? to change?

Yes, it´s on COM6 on my computer.

this may help you.

Go to the control panel -> Location and Other Sensors and enable the Broadcom GPS location sensor.
Also check in the "Change user settings" to allow everyone access to the sensor

then try a free gps application like....visualgps....and if works in there...then vems will use it.

well try the free gps software first and get that working.

as long as your device puts out a nmea stream of data it should work.

Just make sure you can use it in other software first.

As I already wrote, it works with my garmin windows navigtor, I use it almoust every day.
