Trigger Referens tooth table
« on: April 23, 2010, 04:24:14 am »
I would be very thankful if there was one who would explain to me what to write in:
VemsTune 1.1.70
Base Setup <=>
Trigger Referens tooth table

0
1
2
3

I use a CAS 24+1 trigger on a 4 cyl 1342 engine.
And why?

My guess is:
0 = 0
1 = 18
2 = 12
3 = 6

That would be correct.

Hello everybody,

This is my first post on this forum :)
My name is Chris and I want to set up Vems FW 1.1.74 on Volvo 960 2.0T...

I have a problem with Reference tooth table.
I don't know what i should put in there
0321 or 0 30 0 30 or 0 30 60 90?

Trigger wheel is 60-2.
TDC after the trigger is 90deg.
Engine firing order is 1-3-4-2.
I run dual coil pack with two external ignition modules. First coil (EC36 pin 35) is connected to 1cyl&4cyl, while second coil (EC36 pin 33) is 2cyl&3cyl.

My settings:

regards
Chris

60/4 = 15

Then

60 = 0
so

0
45
30
15

thanks for a very quick reply and solution :)
I know my mistake now, but

As I understand the table 0 45 30 15 it says:
ign 0(cyl 1&4)  on tooth 0
ign 1(cyl 2&3)  on tooth 45
ign 2(cyl 1&4)  on tooth 30
ign 3(cyl 2&3)  on tooth 15

when tooth 0 passes VR there is TDC of 2&3
when tooth 15 passes VR there is TDC of 1&4

I'm thinking about this table looking like:
45
30
15
0

Am I wrong again? :/

If you don´t have amble advance of about 60deg+ for TDC on #1. Then you need to adjust the TDC after trigger
to suit the second cylinder firing,

Actually 0,30,0,30 (120/4) would be right for you if you don't use camsync. Check with timing light that cyl1 sparks at correct mark. If you think its 180 degrees off then swap ignition outputs channels.

Sambas

I use
0
40
20
0
40
20

for 6cyl non camsync and it works just fine.

@ wisluk :
Don't use "Ignition adjust - Cold" unless you know what you're doing. Do note, the number you input there is the change from base timing that you desire.  I haven't yet come across a good reason to use it unless it's for lighting up the catalytic converter a little faster with late ignition advance.

The other values are not set yet properly, they are just anything written into them
I should wrote it in the first place...

That's the way I wanted to use it. I mean don't use it at all  ;)
Thanks, because now I'm sure about another thing in config.

You should use my config as a base for all your settings.

Just strobe the first cylinder pair to determine the correct firing order, rotate the ignition output table if you're far off the mark - then adjust trigger tooth for finer adjustment and finally "tdc after the trigger" for the last alignment. Get it going with a rough calibration, then do a final calibration with the engine running and the ignition advance locked (Tools menu).
 The other two ignition outputs can only be in either of two orders after the first cylinder pair (wasted spark) has been found, and if you're feeling confident can be found easily by testing with power to the injectors, it will only run even when the ignition order is correct.

Really you should only give power to the injectors when you are sure that the ignition timing and order is correct. It is very stupid and not necessary to foul plugs and/or cause back-fires.

0 30 0 30 worked for me :)
Know at least I understand what that numbers mean, and how this whole triggering in different tables works ;)
Thanks to everyone who helped me ;)

Hi All

I'm in the process of changing from 1.0.73rc2 to the latest firmware and vemstune.  I don't really get the trigger ref table, I'm manually importing my settings and only get two fields that I can populate, 0 and 1, the rest are greyed out, based on my other parameters please could someone advise:

thanks
Alex

ignition outputs in use is the variable selector.

so 0.. would be 1 usable output

0..1 is 2 , 0..2 is 3 and so on.

So in the trigger reference table should it be 0 and 18 as I'm using a 36-1 trigger?
