trigger on v8
« on: December 03, 2009, 06:35:20 pm »
hello all,

been trying for most of this week to get the engine to run...and had a massive learning curve...

But today went back to the begining, as nothing seams right.

So triggering.

i have a 36-1 GEMS rover v8 flywheel.

Checking the missing tooth from TDC and i find its only 30deg BTDC.

So how can i make this trigger the 40-60deg BTDC that is the optimum.....will i have to index round to the next firing cylinder somehow?.

Anyone point me in the right direction, before i loose my mind.

cheers

scott

Engine:Rover V8 4600cc
Vems Firmware:V1.2.38, GPS, SDcard, LCD & Dual lambdas, Wasted spark, 36-1 trigger, Cam Sync & Bluetooth serial.

Yes you are going to have to move the trigger tooth round, try increasing the trigger tooth by 3 to start off with.

rob,

I gathered, but still unsure how i am to achieve this.

The whole triggering thing is starting to confuse the hell out of me, and i think i've lost my way.

I've changed that many times, nothing makes sense.

Been trying 2wks now, and still wont even fire.

So i tried the next firing cylinder (8), and change ignition & injector firing order to suit....and still nothing.

Setting trigger to tooth 7 and tdc after trigger to 60deg.

not even try to fire.

confused as hell.

Are you even getting rpmĀ“s?
Any signals on the ignition output wires?

hiya,

Yes i have spark & fuel getting in, but plugs have been dripping wet.

Had some firing just not running.

When i checked the timing at 0deg tdc, i foudn that my tdc after the trigger was only set to 20deg.

So i indexed the trigger round to the next cylinder no.8, and changed the firing order & ignition to suit....now nothing.

Its gotta be a timing issue, just need to understand the triggering better i think.
