Megasquirt user thinking of swapping to VEMS
« on: July 12, 2007, 08:28:29 am »
Hi all,

I currently have Megasquirt V3 ecu's on my cars running Megsquirt and Spark Extra software. The Megasquirt has been fantastic for me from day 1. I have one on a rover V8 and one on a peugeot XU9JA.

The Megasquirt and spark software very stable and does everything I need. I also use PalmLog for dataloging which is very handy. I have an Innovate LC-1 wideband 02 connected on both cars for tuning fuel.

So why change? well I'm a compulsive messer! I like the look of VEMS, I write software for ATMEGA128's on a daily basis and the built in knock sensing and wideband O2 looks very inviting!

The only thing I cant see on the VEMS is tractrion control, does it do this?

Also is there any logging/tuning software for the Palm?

Are there any MS users on here that have swapped to VEMS?

Comments or sugestions welcome please!

Kind regards,

Scott

Scott,

The built-in wideband O2 is an awesome addition to any ECU, it makes tuning fuel very simple, don't forget the EGT either, it too lends more information to the setup and monitoring of the engine.

We don't have traction control and although there are plans to do it there are a number of areas that the development is better spent.

We use the MegaTune protocol so that we can use the MegaTune program, I can't see why the Palm software you use won't work with VEMS you'll have to change the offsets for the datalogs and so on, all this is available through the vems3.ini file in the MegaTune downloads from the wiki.

Thanks for your reply rob!

Traction control is not a massive requirement, and I dont use it on my car, But my other half runs a Cobra replica powered by a Rover V8 and had not really learnt the art of 'Human' traction control yet, it would be a good feature for her.

I'd be interested in having a go at writing somthing myself, I noticed on the wiki that VEMS uses AVRGCC which I use daily. Is the latest source avaliable at all? I guess theres a link on the wiki somewhere, but that wiki takes some digesting!  ??? If I can get it to build then i'll be sold!

 ;)

VEMS is not open source :(

It was, but then some people helped themselves to the Wideband code and have become successful because of it.

We closed everything down after that. >:(

There is the possability of working on the baseline code, but it takes quite a bit to develop trust with the development team, we'd require a proposal for the improvement or extra functionality.  This will get you limited acces to specific code files.

Theres nothing personal in this method of working, afterall none of the other competitor's offer any exposure to their code.

Give me a shout and I can put the order through for you.  It costs exactly the same, but we'll both be sure that you get the right configuration for you.

I have a VEMS running on my 5 litre rover v8.  I'm happy to help where I can :)
(And I put in part of the TCS proposal in to the team, seeing as the car became a bit silly after VEMS was fitted)

I have to say VEMS was a good choice for me.

I read you install notes, looks well nice. I'm loving that carbon fiber plenum!

Rob,

I was going to get the ECU from here http://shop.vems.hu/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=1&products_id=29&osCsid=d4f79d014ca8e247a13b6e44cc43206a and build it up myself, as i have 3 cars to do, I cant afford to buy finished ecu's, but i'm hoping i can still rely on this forum for support...

Regards,

Scott

Mine's the TVR Griffith 500 (doesn't have the carbon plenum - at least not yet)

I really should update my install notes to cover the H404 cam and 11:1 compression :D

So can i just buy the partly built board off you as in the above link? If so i'd be happy to, I will also need the Econoseal connectors and i could do with some more injector connectors too. If you can do that stuff, is there any chance of a price?

Thanks in advance,

Scott

Hello Scottieb,

I saw you have also a PUG. If you have a VEMS installed, could you take a look here:
http://www.vems.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=643.0
and let me know if I am on the correct way?

Many thanks in advance, George
