KLM Knock level meter
« on: July 11, 2008, 12:41:11 pm »
HI all.

Me and a friend is making some knock level meters, that use leds to show the knock level, and i could ship them to GB or anywere else, if neeeded,
This is a great tool, to have permently installed, or as i use one the i move around from car to car, for mapping.

Currently there are 2 models, they both work the same way, with level adjustment, on one model the leds are mounted inboard, in a really small masiv rubber pack, and the on the other the leds are mounted on wires, so they can be remote mounted.
It is complete kits that include everything, and are easy to hook up, there is knocksensor and plugs included.
Also included is freight in EU.
Price shipped for the version with the leds built in is, 90£
and the price for the model with the leds on remote wiring is 105£,
This incl. it all.
payment can be made with paypal.
There will later on be a "mapper Version" that will feature 10leds, and a jack plug, so earphones can be pluged in, so its not only visuel.

Pics of the 2 current models

And here it´s mounted in VR6 "turbo Gigante"

and here the remote mounted in the "black sleeper"

Rob , you may delete if you find this "too much"

How do you set up knock frequency and how do you synchronize your device with ignition events (I mean knock window) ?

This KLM listen over a wider frequency range, i can put up a measurement of the exact range, it´s not something you have to synchronice with ignition event,
This device will simply let you know from the Big red led, if there is knock, there is a gain regulator on the backside of the KLM, that you adjust when running your car,so no more then the 2 green leds light up when running around 2/3 of your rpm range,
On my own car the bottum led will light up from around 4500rpm, and the second will show around 6500rpm, if there is knock precent anywere in your rpm range, feks on my car around 3200rpm were none of the leds a light, the big red will flash instently.Warning you of knock.
this is offcourse best to have checked in conjuction with det cans, so you know what is knock,

it is the best readout of any knock device i have tryed, and i have tryed a few :)

I remember making a similar device, way back in the mists of time.  :)   Much better than the Link knocklink.

Is it analog electronic based or did you "digitise" the design with one of those TPIC knock chip?  (He says hopefully)

I´m sorry to say that it is still analog electronic, but that does not mean it dosent work, it is indeed a great tool  :)

There's nothing wrong with analog electronics - no matter what all the digital electronics engineers try to tell us ;)
