Wideband Knock in VEMS pipeline?
« on: March 26, 2008, 02:00:39 pm »
Hi,

Has VEMS got anything planned in the future for a wideband knock monitor/logger?

Kris :)

what exactly is that?

not sure, but ion sensing sure would be nice! i know some people have played around with it  :o

I dont think that there are any knock systems planned.

ION sensing is still very much the dream we all dream of, but to get there from here will require a lot of work.

Cool. i was looking at phormula KS-3 system. I didn't know about Ion sensing it looks great but it looks complex  :(

i would think with proper configuration the knock sensing built into vems would be equivalent or better than the KS-3

I was looking at the KS-3 last week before i got knock almost working  :-\

when they say 'wideband' i'm assuming they are talking about frequency response of the sensor. since you are tuning for a particular frequency and then setting amplitute (even with their unit), i'm not sure how much it matters if the sensor is linear throughout its curve, etc etc.

Maybe, but the KS-3 has a display which I like from a permanent monitor point of view. Phormula are apparently making a new version which can log and produce a narrowband output for standard ECU's etc.

Yeah, wideband in its ability to monitor more frequencies :)

Hi,
As far as I was aware you only want to monitor a narrow frequency band to cut out other noise that would make knock harder to detect? Am I missing something here  ???
Cheers,
Gavin :)
