Verify my new ABZ V8 trigger profile logfile please? :)
« on: July 24, 2014, 08:51:43 pm »
I've upgraded from megatune/1.0.73 to vemstune /1.2.11.  That was a roight painful transition until I got a new usb converter ;p

At any rate, I was running COP dual/wasted with no cam sync and now I'm about to put the fuses back and try my new sequential COP!

I have taken a recording, but don't really know what to look for yet.  By the time you read this I may have figured it out, but maybe not.

Can somebody take a look and tell me if the engine will run/explode/fiddle about?

vemstune 1-5-25
firmwarea 1.2.11
Audi ABZ
(hall)prim trigger 60-2
(VR?)camtrigger = 1 tooth of ~8deg width (rest of trigger bell/teeth cut off)
VEMS v3.2 ECU from ~2006
firing order 1-5-4-8-6-3-7-2
cylinder 1 to ignition output channel 0
cylinder 5 to ignition output channel 7
cylinder 4 to ignition output channel 6
cylinder 8 to ignition output channel 5
cylinder 6 to ignition output channel 4
cylinder 3 to ignition output channel 3
cylinder 7 to ignition output channel 2
cylinder 2 to ignition output channel 1

Shouldnt those ignition events be evenly spaced over the whole range and not look the way they do?

Please post a config/vemslog as well.

It looks like you simply have not defined your ignition output table correctly.
Make sure your ignition output table uses all 8 rows. Repeat your first four entries.

Wait, do you mean the trigger reference tooth table?

I had forgotten to apply the vemstune-suggested changes to that (8 events instead of 4) after re-doing the igntion outputs.

Now I try to take a trigger recording and the recording window runs by itself without cranking and up the corner it says "safe mode" and primary is X-out eye.  What does this mean and why did that behavior change?  Very confused.

Did you mean to say that the ignition output table I already posted is not correct?  Because it seems that there is only one way to do it?

Thanks!
Ben

Remove all the conflicts from your config file and review your trigger settings (see defaults in "primary trigger" dialog).
(tip : Next to "LOG" button, is "validate config")

I don't have any conflicts in that config file :) according to the check button.  That logfile is old, but it was the only one in the folder (?).

I could not find a default trigger setup for 8 cylinder 60-2??

Thanks!

Why is the vemstune going haywire now when I tried to record a new trigger log?

Should my triggerteeth dialogue look like this?  This is supposed to be full sequential c.o.p. as opposed to dual-cop now.:

Hello Smurfinator,

Your current reftooth table is incorrect when using camsync, change it to: "0, 15, 30, 45, 60, 75, 90, 105" and take another triggerlog so we can review.

Best regards, Dave

If there is a log, that's what I look at. It contains something completely different.

Your config looked ok as far as the trigger goes. Not sure why you would get that pattern in the triggerlog. It should repeat all 8 ignition events (pink/purple lines).
In case you uploaded a new one, with correct ref tooth table.. ?

A few pointers.

Firing injectors while cranking should be redone in firmware. Firing simultaneously with divider 1 makes for very unpredictable fuel entering the engine, I would use divider 4 (once every crank revolution). The calculated cranking pulsewidth is divided by 8 in your config, and usually gets too short to actually inject a useful amount of fuel. This results in raising the cranke VE% or enrichment to higher values than are easily related to other engines.
With large injectors the problem gets worse.
For reference, the crank VE% should usually be the same as what you have in the VE table at 100 kPa and low rpm. You can tune that site by engaging highest gear and going WOT, and maybe using the break to monitor what the engine wants in case it accelerates to much.

For the wideband controller, use the default settings (available at bottom of dialog).

EGO closed loop control, "cycles before .. correction", lower it to 5-10 cycles instead of 24. And enable the speed settings.

You have A LOT of ignition advance at WOT on this engine 39 degrees is almost 10 degrees more than I would use even for a street tune.. Perhaps it's dyno verified, I don't know but that would just make me double check the TDC markings (ït's probably retarded advance).

Your target lambda should be changed, 0.85-0.88 at WOT 100 kPa is more likely.

You have a non-standard MAT/TPS enrichment table, it should work alright though.
MAT/TPS ignition retard starts too soon, you could start dropping ignition at higher temperatures.

Your acceleration enrichment table is a bit backwards when it comes to the rpm dependant table. I would use 100% at 1000 rpm and lower it with rising rpm.

Thanks for all the good info, guys!

Number one question, though:  What could cause the trigger recording window to go haywire suddenly when it worked before?

What I mean is that I cannot take a recording now.  I open that dialogue and the window is already recording with no engine cranking.  The icons in the upper left corner are X-out eye for primary and it says "safe mode" and is running like mad printing purple lines.

What would cause this?

Thanks!

Yikes, I can see that some of my tables are a little weird now.  They didnt seem so weird in megatune with 1.0.73.  Maybe the conversion is funky or I had copied some table files to the wrong directory, confusing the vemstune process.

I don't know if I have ever seen or made/adjusted the MAT/IAT enrichment and retard tables (oops?).

Some of these subjects are not covered in documentation - not in any place I have found yet :P
