What firmware to use with round?
« on: May 05, 2010, 03:32:36 am »
I have just recently tried to start using a Round display that was manufactured several years ago.  Has been sitting on a shelf this whole time.

Should I use the latest firmware?  I am not currently using Vemstune, I'm using 1.1.44Alpha with megatune and I'm wishing to use the round gauge to only receive AiM inputs from the Vems so I don't have to have more than one wideband, and to receive info such as water temp, kPA, etc.

On the vems.hu info page, the suggested firmware (2009) build date is a bad file....I use a slightly older firmware (2009-4-30 I think) and I'm having trouble with the round sending info back to the vems box and corrupting the config.  My friend told me he found out that I should just remove the data send wire in the serial cable to keep this from happening.

Either way, what firmware should I use?  And what are the important configs to have if using AiM only?

OK so I have read through all of the literature I could find, and have put all the settings that make sense to me now and match what I find in the literature.

Right now though aim is enabled on both the round and my vems with 1.44alpha firmware.

I can cycle through all 7 pages on the round but none of the Aim info is showing up.  Round's onboard EGT and Wideband is showing up but all of the AIM show 000 or FFU or something.

Any tips?

Thanks for the help so far!

PS, I did go ahead and upgrade to newest 2010 firmware.  Made more sense but still no communication between round and VEMS.  With the new firmware nothing is coming through, with the 2009 firmware, at least TPS via AIM seemed to be working, but nothing else.  I might go back to older firmware and see what happens again now that I understand the setting a bit more thanks to that link that was posted above.

OK, so I actually backdated to 2009 firmware and some functions work...I can see lambda, battery (with multiplication factor), rpm, and tps.

I can't make any sense from water temp, map, or iat.
Does anyone know what kind of multiplication factor they used to get any of the above to make sense on the round?

What I realized is that 2010 firmware must be geared for vemstune only firmwares...no aim seemed to be being picked up by the round.  2010 firmware seems to also let you mix and match between host info (lambda, rpm, egt) and aim info.

2009 firmware you have to pick one or the other I think.  Which is fine for me actually.

But anyways, any help with getting water temp, map, or iat to make sense would help.

with the car warmed up i'm seeing numbers that don't make any sense.

There has been a logical split in the firmware for Round depending on use:

Round Firmware versions 0.x.x are for AIM mode
Round Firmware versions 1.x.x are for Wideband controller and on-board EGT

Here's what Marc Swanson and I came up with over the weekend for AIM mode. It's not perfect, but should get you 95% of the way to your goal.
BTW: This is using 2009-03-03 Round firmware and the megatune packaged with it to configure it

Lambda Display on top
Channel: 105
Multiplier: 10%
Offset: 8192
Dot: x.xx

MAP on bottom (didn't seem to work consistently on top for some reason, maybe our error though)
Channel: 69
Multiplier: 100%
Offset: 8182
Dot: No Dot

EGT on bottom
Channel: 101
Multiplier: 10%
Offset: 7192
Dot: No Dot

Coolant Temp
Channel: 17
Multiplier: 100%
Offset: 7192
Dot: xxx.x

RPM
Channel: 1
Multiplier: 100%
Offset: 8192
Dot: No Dot

Also note a long button press enables or disables the AIM input mode, so beware of that.

I'll play more with it today and get some more example settings.
