Missing alien advance and other settings FW1.2.20
« on: March 17, 2014, 06:11:09 pm »
Hi

Can anybody tell me why "alien advance" in "Secondary Trigger Settings" is missing in vemstune from firmware 1.2.20 and up.
It was supported in 1.2.15

Several other settings  is also missing in "Secondary Trigger Settings" in relation to 1.2.15

Hello Per,

Alien Advance option has been removed because it was not supported in any 1.2.X firmware (not even in 1.2.15).

Some other options have been consolidated in the "secondary trigger" -> "mode" selection and some leftovers have been cleaned up (no information or configuration capability has been lost).
For information about available secondary trigger options, see: http://vems.hu/vt/help/v3/v3_secondary_trigger_settings.html.

Best regards, Dave

Sorry to hear that.
Alien advance was great to view (only) camsync signals before configuration. The engine cannot start without a proper camsync, but it can start with alien advance.

Hi Per,

Perhaps you missed the option: Missing tooth primary allow sync without camsync receive: Allows engine to enter sync (on primary trigger) without receive of valid cam-sync.

We recommend any trigger logging of primary and secondary signals to be done in cranking mode only (without ignition and injection fuse), not actually starting the engine .

Best regards, Dave

Hi Dave

I am aware of Missing tooth primary allow sync without camsync receive. I have been using it.

Alien advance gives you, as  far as I can see, the opportunity to watch both the rising and falling trigger in the triggerlog. That way it is easy to compare which to use, because both is displayed visually. Also you can see the number of crank degrees between rising and falling camtrigger+number of degrees between primary trigger signals and so on.
One could also use it to verify/check other cam events, to see when they happen.
I still think it was a great tool when setting up/troubleshooting a new engine.

best regards

You have all that in trigger log.
