hello to everyone
« on: May 19, 2007, 09:01:55 pm »
Hi,

i´m Thomas from Germany.
i have a BMW E30 with a 5.0 V12 engine and i would like to super charge it sooner or later.

Due to the super charger setup i couldn´t use the stock ecu and so i found VEMS.
The engine has a 60-2 Trigger wheel.
i´ll try to run with wastet spark and without air mass meter. I have to delite the throttle bodies (one for each intake) and use only one big TB in front of the charger.

I also visit the VEMS HP and tried to understand the most of it.But i still have some questions.

Will VEMS suits with my planned setup? i need a spark every 60°!
MegaSquirt and VEMS use the same tuning software. Is Auto Tune possible for VEMS?
I read something about the Ignition drivers. There are some different? Wich will i need???
Will i need something i´ve forgotten? VEMS board, wiring, 1x trigger wheel sensor, 1x MAP, 1x IAT, 2x WBO2 and 2x EGT, 1x CLT, 1x TPS.
Any other Boards??? Do i have to solder some parts on the board myselfe or is it complete?

Sorry for so many newbee question but i´m not sure yet.

Greetings from Germany

Thomas

I have VEMS on a v8, so firing at 90 degrees.  There's no problem with firing at 60 degrees, although there are only 8 channels for injection & 8 for ignition (if my memory is right) so you'll have pair up the injectors and use wasted spark.

Not sure on what ignition drivers you need yet - it depends on what coils you have (active or not) and whether or not you wish to use an external amplifier module.

VEMS can autotune the fuel, and this works quite well.  Auto tune of ignition is not possible, as you really need to do this on a dyno.

You can build a VEMS yourself, or you can buy a ready assembled one.  It really depends on whether you have time and equipment or want to buy something ready assembled.  You only need the one board - everything's on there.

what kind of coils are the Bosch 6 Cylinder coilpacks i can get from vems.co.uk?

that should be no problem.

Hi Thomas and welcome I am going to have to change the title of this forum as we have a more international list than I'd thought we'd get!

The Bosch coil packs are wasted spark passive coils, so you'll need the IGBTs populated in the VEMS, give me an email on rob@vems.co.uk when you want to put an order in and I'll make sure that you get the parts you need and run through the options with you.
I'd recommend an assembled system as its one less unknown factor in a complicated project!

Absolutely agree with Rob on buying an assembled controller for all the reasons he says and it'll let you get to play with the car faster :)

If you have a trigger already on the engine then you're on to a winner from the start :)
