Title: No comm in MT, but works with terminal and vemstune?
Post by: lugnuts on May 21, 2009, 09:40:08 PM
Hello, I'm stumped again!

Webshop assembled ECU, 1.0.73 FW. My computer and serial connection had no problems.

I ship the ECU to a customer, using a laptop and usb-serial. Windows XP.

They cannot connect to the ecu using MT. They open MT and test ports 1-10 and no response.

The car runs, and the ecu *does seem to connect with:

Terminal "Manmlp02 and Enter = <Hello>"
and
VemsTune "ECU Connected, FW 1.0.73"

Any ideas?

It sounds like they are using MT for an other firmware.
Have you checked that they are using MT from the 1.0.73 zip file?

I made some modifications to the MT .ini file, and I supplied them with the same MT.

Also, if the FW were different, there should be an error message that pops up when the ecu is powered up right?

I had exactly the same issue with my last laptop. Terminal worked as it should but I didn't succeed getting a connection with MT. I think the PLC controller programs I had installed interfered with the com ports. Luckily this was replaced and the new laptop is working fine.

Common problem is where there's been a USB to serial converter used on that machine before.
All relevant drivers need to be uninstalled then the USB device plugged in and the correct drivers installed as directed by Windows

Thanks very much for the help. I knew it was something related to their computer.
I appreciate the help.

Hi,
The USB to serial adaptors can use any number up to COM 256!
The customer will probably need to go into device manager and change the COM port the adaptor is using.
Cheers,
Gavin :)
