Title: Engine without sparks, again.
Post by: chencho16000 on November 19, 2008, 10:19:21 PM
I donÃ,´t understand it.
I rewiew all, I change coil, connectors, but when I try to start engine only one spark and its all.
I sent attached with config and tables

Hi I think:
h[2]=20 10 20 10 20 10 20 10
should be:
h[2]=20 30 20 30 20 30 20 30
And the coils should be connected to EC36pin34 and EC36pin36.
As in most models of VEMS there is no transistor connected to EC36pin33 (channel 10)

Hello.
I changed the series 20 10 20 for the series 20 30 20.
He reloaded the firmware, again reviewed the tables and still does not have a continuous spark, not even jump at all cylinders.
I do not understand.
I will have a problem with ground?
Thanks!

What pins are your coils connected to?
Title: Re: Engine without sparks, again.

EC36-34 AND 36.
Title: Re: Engine without sparks, again.

Sorry! I should have read the a few posts to get the context of this thread  :-[
How are you checking the spark - with a timing light or visibly watching the plug?

Did you have spark on all the channels before?

Can you confirm that its not the coil?
Title: Re: Engine without sparks, again.
Post by: chencho16000 on November 30, 2008, 07:54:50 AM
I think it isnÃ,´t the coil, because It is new.

When I click to start the engine, only a single spark jumps on channel 20, ie the cylinders 1 and 4.
If change the connection, spark on channel 30, sparks at 2 and 3.

The car came with the engine running.
   The engine was operating.

Maybe you have fried IGBT's,try to switch the wires to some other outputs (Pin33 & Pin35)...and change the h[2] table according to outputs you select

Which firmware is this? secondary_trigger should be 02 when disabled
Title: Re: Engine without sparks, again.

Hello Bmw 325i!!!
How knows if EC36 pins 33 or 35 are 12V or 5V?
Best regards!
Title: Re: Engine without sparks, again.
Post by: [email protected] on November 30, 2008, 06:14:40 PM
The pins without IGBTs read 5v if you test between the pin and ground, otherwise they will read 0V

As Sambas pointed out you have secondary_trigger=00 and it should be set to secondary_trigger=02
Title: Re: Engine without sparks, again.
Post by: chencho16000 on November 30, 2008, 08:10:33 PM
Rob, this type of error, may be  for the secondary trigger? or this is for igtb fried?

Has a solution, it is something simple or complicated to repair. ??
I can see it if I open the box on the ECU ??

Title: Re: Engine without sparks, again.
Post by: [email protected] on November 30, 2008, 10:24:44 PM
First try the trigger setting - you can change it to 2 in Settings->Secondary trigger / Cam sync Settings
The IGBT may be fried - which would be strange if all you did was change a coil - you should have one or two spare, you can find out by looking at voltage on the pins as I posted above.
If you want to remove the front cover and have a look then thats fine, you should be able to see the way that the straps hold the FETs and IGBTs to the case.

Hi Rob!
My unit has the serial number 868.
The purchased through you. In the scheme of connections that send, showing that the coil was connected to pins 34 and 36 of the EC 36. That is how it had functioned properly.
Today, I connected the pins 33 and 35, I set the H (2) and not driving the coil.
You could tell if my unit has other pins I could use?

If you need any information, ask them.
Not to do! ??? ??? ???

Thanks.

There are two more channels that you can use, its a good idea to put the coils back to the original pins, and identify which channel seems to have blown.  You then only need to try to move the single channel.

I have asked for further details on your unit, it may be different to the outputs in the UserGuide.
Title: Re: Engine without sparks, again.
Post by: chencho16000 on December 02, 2008, 03:32:37 PM
The output is not working is 36. I have verified.
Anyway, only 34 emits a spark every time it is given to the starter engine.
The output 33 and 35, connected to the coils do not generate any spark. Are negative, do not lead.

I continue to await your news or instructions.
Thank you.

Chencho.

There are a four other ignition pins - two of them have IGBTs on them.

Sparking only once on start seems very strange behaviour.

Good evening!
What of them?, Rob.
You could find out how my unit is initially configured? You remember the Vems 3.3 No 868
Title: Re: Engine without sparks, again.
Post by: [email protected] on December 02, 2008, 09:19:36 PM
Yes I am still awaiting a response from VEMS HQ.
You could try testing each of the other four pins to see if you get a solution before they answer.

Okay, if you have 34 and 36 the other two channels are:
Pins 11 and 12.
Title: Re: Engine without sparks, again.

NO, no, no!!!!
Rob, I am sure, this unit only had two exits, the 34 and 36. Remember, I bought it through you.
In another vein, I opened the box and had a track burned. I made a jumper on the track and then had burned an IGBT.
Now everything has to be revised.
You have IGBT?  You can you send me a full game?
Now I need to urgently repair the unit.
Title: Re: Engine without sparks, again.
Post by: [email protected] on December 05, 2008, 08:27:38 PM
When I checked your order I saw that it was a 4+4.

Burning a track means that you've managed to put a lot of current through the unit.

Are you 100% sure that there were no spare IGBTs (the FETs are all black plastic, the IGBTs have a metal tab).

I'm not sure if I have any spares, normally I would direct people to the webshop - if you are in a bug rush you might want to consider using an OEM igniter pack.
Title: Re: Engine without sparks, again.
Post by: chencho16000 on December 05, 2008, 08:40:06 PM
In the motherboard there are only two IGBTs with a sheet metal.
The rest are all black.
Can you explain me, please, how I can use an OEM package of Ignition?
Title: Re: Engine without sparks, again.
Post by: [email protected] on December 05, 2008, 10:59:41 PM
The standard external igniter packs are IGBTs in a heat sink - so you can use any of the logic or stepper outputs to drive them.  The following shows a connection to an OEM pack
(http://www.vems.co.uk/VEMSUserManual/ConnectingExternalTransistorPackUsingStepper.png)
Using the stepper output but you can just as easily try EC36pin33 and 35

Hello!
I have reviewed again the motherboard and actually, sorry, ;) there are two more pinout, the EC36-are 10 and the EC-24.I´ll connect and check if they function properly.
Before that I wanted something: :-\
In reviewing the motherboard, I noticed that the IGBT chip is the one that is connected to pin EC36-6, which in my schedule is the one that controlled the idle valve.
Could have affected other parts?
How can I test? to exclude other incidents.
Thank you.
Title: Re: Engine without sparks, again.
Post by: [email protected] on December 06, 2008, 05:30:04 PM
I'm not sure how I can be more specific - so if you have an OEM igniter pack that you want to use, could you give me the pin outs of it and I will draw up a schematic of how it can be used.  That or buy a replacement (or two) IGBT directly from the webshop:
http://shop.vems.hu/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=49

Something has short circuited and caused a massive current to damage one ignition channel, so you also need to find what could have caused that.

Here is a schematic for using a Nissan igniter pack:
As you only need two channels you would use EC36-pin33 and EC36-pin35 and connect the coil pack to their opposite pins.

My car is not a Nissan. It is a Ford Escort RS Turbo. 4-cylinder, the ignition order, and worked with a 1-3-4-2 double coil, one for cylinders 1 and 4, for example, the EC36-34, and another for cilindors 2 and 3, EC36-36.
I suppose it is a mistake it commented.

Good morning Rob. The configuration of my unit, the 868, effectively configured with 4 outputs for ignition, the EC36-10, 24.34 and 36.
It also has four outputs for injection, EC36-6, 7,8,9,17,18,19, and 20.
According to the schedule that you sent me hooked on pin 6 to idle valve. And the FET (injector/WBO2 heater driver) is fried.
Could it be that the cause is not work the ignition IGBT 34 and 36?
Are independents, IGBT -FET.?????

I know that your car is not a Nissan - the wiring advice was for an external
OEM igniter pack, and the instructions I wrote were to aid you to configure
it to drive a wasted spark pack. A fried FET is a very different issue than
an IGBT - the FETs are for switching injectors and solenoids only, IGBTs are
for switching ignition coils - switching an ignition coil with a FET would
kill it very quickly. I really don't know what could have happened to make
your system suddenly stop working. Could you do a File->Save As... in
MegaTune and send me the .msq file from what you have on your box right at
this moment please?

Reply sent - it looked like the RPM Limiter had been set to zero.
