Title: How to go from 12x12 to 16x14?
Post by: antonch on November 21, 2007, 05:49:52 AM
I am getting that itch to add more RPM break points. What I have now is not enough for me. How easy would it be to upgrade on 1.0.73?

It should be easy..

1. Download-config.bat
2. Generate-config16X14.bat
3. Upload-firmware16X14.bat
4. Upload-config.bat

I did prepare my 16x14 tables before i did try that and then i just needed to use that Table import function in MT.

It worked fine for me, then i tried to set my tempsensors to 2063 2063 256, then Vems crashed and i had to reset it. I didnÃ,´t bother to try again, i just uploaded my 12X12 firmware and working config in. I might try it again today...

I think there is a different tempsensor program for 16x14. Please update if you get it to work. Basically I want more breakpoints around idle region to keep those lambdas spot on. OEM ecus have a 2nd table just for idle.

Yes, i did use that tempsensor_upload16X14 command, i didnÃ,´t have enough time today to try it.

I think that those old 2063 hex files are maybe wrong to work with 16X14 firmware, not sure though.

It makes me wonder that why that final 1.0.73zip didnÃ,´t include those 2063 hex files, as iÃ,´ve understand that they are quite common what people use..
Maybe i did mess something wrong when trying to update to those bigger maps

Stick to getting the firmware updated using the tables and configs, I have concerns about MegaTune tables being imported and exported.

Yeah, I noticed that it doesn't communicate rpm bins values that well even on a same firmware. You end up having to go and change it again once the car is running, weird.

If i remember correctly i didnÃ,´t import those tables yet, it was next after that tempsensor upload thing.. Maybe i have enough time today to try it.

Okay, tried again, this time with better luck.
Dunno what went wrong last time.??!!
I did everything as last time.
I didnÃ,´t drive it yet but it idled ok.

My rpm bins are:
600, 800,1000,1200,1400,1600,2200,2500,2800,3400,4000,4600,5200,5800,6400,7000
And Map bins go like:
20,30,36,40,46,50,60,70,80,90,100,150,198,240

Good to hear it worked! Now I want to do this but it is my daily driver. So if something doesn't work well--I can't come to work the next day  :( I mainly want to add idle area. P/T seems to be fairly linear on my engine.

What firmware are you running?

If youu save your config.txt and tables.txt before you make the change then you can swap back and forth between the different firmware setups quite easily.  Best to try it on a weekend though!

1.0.73

Prepare your 16x14 maps before you try to update it..
Then you just have to dial them in, no need to think so much.

e.g how to convert from 12x12 to 16x14 etc?
just a thought.........

That'd be good. I am still trying to figure out how to get VE auto learn to work. I've been meaning to write up a procedure for making a base map.

sat here thinking about this,
im doing the reset correct with the paper clip, (i hope)
Rob do you disconect the vems from power completly? or just turn ignition off then on to reset?
if just ign on and off im doing that correct,
i think im not getting the second bit right the upload, :(
maybe im not sending the right data or something, or just getting that part wrong full stop,

at least i know its not an engine fault this time  :D ;D :D ;D

Hmm, you shouldnÃ,´t turn power off after youÃ,´ve used that pin.

Power off, bridge pin 2&3 with wire, power on, wait a second (doesn't make any difference as its effect is instant), remove wire, connect serial cable and follow the proceedure in that thread.  If you power off between it reverts to normal

it runs ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D,
but only on 12x12 again but im a happy bunny again,
jago did the same thing i did with the paper clip and the upload, and it did not work for him either, after about 10 attempts doing it different ways it worked.  ??? ???
Jago got the 16x14 loaded ok and for some reason, the table values would not save,
every time we changed rpm from say 400 to 7000 when we opened  MT again and went into ecu the last 4 or 6 values had changed to 25000 and the kpa had gone from the 5 to 100 we had set to 5 to 256,
any ideas?
the main thing is she is running again on a 12x12 :D,

oh it changed all the injector settings to for some reason,

i will get this to run on the 16x14, just any pointers why it has done the above????

thanks for every ones help again.

may be a VERY stupid question, but did you upload the firmware for the 16x14 or just the tables?

Stick to getting the firmware updated using the tables and configs, I have concerns about MegaTune tables being imported and exported.

Perhaps I need to clarify this statement.

Make the 16x14 changes by adding the extra cells to the j[], l[], n[], k[], and r[]  tables.txt NOT using MegaTune to do it.

Once running, MegaTune works fine.

While these values are not what you'd want to run, they should at least set the tables up correctly.
