Title: e30 325 turbo - switch config for A/C
Post by: DevInAz on July 07, 2013, 01:11:42 AM
here is a small project that I installed VEMS on to.  This car had a WAR chip installed with a air mass meter conversion but I guess it never ran correctly.

It came to me with no ECU so I installed a VEMS 3.6.

This car is running 42lb injectors with stock ignition and a custom turbo kit that the owner installed himself. I only added a M54 idle control valve, m50 TPS and IAT sensor from the webshop that is an open element.

The only problem I ran into with this car was the A/C engaging. It was a much larger load on the engine than normal, and i'm not sure why.  I changed the PID values and ref table but it wasn't enough.

Since this compressor on signal is a 12v and I couldn't use that as a input to the VEMS I installed a relay.

pin 85: 12v from compressor on
pin 86: body ground
Pin 30: ground from sensors EC36 pin 26
Pin 87: to EC18 pin 2 analog channel 5 (pull up 5v)

Now every time the A/C is switched on used the same config as before but raised the idle by 100rpm and raised the IAC ref table up about 10 points across the board.  This made a big difference in the way the car drives, before when driving at low rpm you could feel the compressor cycling on and off, now its nice and smooth.
