Hi. Im new to this board.

Just bought a V3.3 Vems to use on my BMW S38B36 engine with COP.

I ofc want it to be fully sequential, so which drivers should i buy, and how should i solder them in?

I would also like 2 of each WBO2 and EGT. How can i tell if i have that? I guess i only have 1 EGT, since there only is 1 EGT plug. What should i buy and where do i need to put it? Also i want to use 4.9 LSU sensors.

Also i need a secondary trigger. I know the ECU ran a 4 cyl toyota engine before, which had a VR crank sensor. How can i tell whether the secondary pickup is Hall or VR?

When im done modding the board, do i just power it up and it registers the changes it self, or is there a procedure to follow?

Thanks

seems you missing just one or maybe 2 resistors for 2nd wbo2 R103 (75KOhm) and check R140 - not visible on your pictures.

Also for second egt you need to add U25 chip, wire and some cap in parallel with sensor.

For 6 COPs you have to add 6 IGBT transistors on that free row.

So just solder 6 of these on here? https://shop.vems.hu/catalog/ignition-driver-p-49.html

I think R140 is there. So here i just add a 75k ohm smd resistor.

And this all needs to be added here per 2.2.1 EGT/knock http://www.vems.hu/files/genboardv3/assembly/vems_v3_documentation.pdf

How about using 4.9 LSU, i need to add some resistors?

How about using 4.9 LSU, i need to add some resistors?

1. Mainly yes. You also want to bit reinforce grounding from 36/22 to that row.

2. seems yes. I do not see any other missing part.

3. that documentation should be sufficient.

4. For LSU4.9 you need 2 27Kohm resistors from pin1 and pin 13 to 5V

But before those mods, it is crazy old board... you need encrypted bootloader, because 2nd wbo2, knock and lsu4.9 works after 1.2.20 or so. Check your saved files: is there n or u letter before serial number. You want u.

Also it would be better to rewire knock sensors to pin 14 and 15. Also there is missing part for second knock channel. No need for repeat grounding pin for knock. Just use sensor ground.

Also you missing 30V TVS diode.

1. I assume you mean from 21/22/26/32? So i just add a wire and take it to the extra through holes at the IGBTs? IE something like this:

What about this? Needs removal? I mean the 2 diodes and the cap.

4. So this would work?

5. Thanks for turning my attention to that! Ive now ISP coded the chip, so its ready for new bootloader, and ive contacted Vems for password.

6. So just move the red and black wire on the underside to pin 14 and 15? What part is missing for second knock to work?

7. I cant seem to find this in the schematics? What do i need to add where?

GintsK

1. just like here
http://www.vems.hu/files/GergelyLezsak/v35pics/15_FETS.jpg

seems someone tried to run tach before...

4. no. Wrong pin. There is no 5V

You can find 5V on that near capacitor South-West from both pins.

6. From both outer pads (middle is gnd) to 14 and 15, yes.

Seemed resistor on top side of pcb. Inputs are identical. Check.

7. http://www.vems.hu/wiki/index.php?page=MembersPage%2FCerozg

That capacitor also good idea to remove noise issues.

1. Okay so just 1 wire :)

Remove the cap and diodes?

4. So like this?(Brown) Or from 1 of the holes?

7. So do this? Can you provide specs on the parts needed?

Sorry i dont get what you mean?

GintsK

1. one wire is OK. There is thin grounding on pcb from that side.

those two diodes - usually tach works ok from tach output. Except on some old cars.

4. brown. But check which side is 5V

7. Yes that. 1.5KE30 unidirectional TVS diode. And some polymer capacitor. >60V >1uF would be OK.

For knock check R2 resistor. Is it there?

1. So is that a yes? ECU is going into BMW E28.

4. Will check.

8. R2 is there, R3 is not there.
