'83 BMW 628csi S38B38 project
« on: July 04, 2019, 12:43:28 pm »
Hi all,
Back from a while I am going to collect my vems v3.3 board again and start a new project for my full restoration 628csi project.
The car is at the bodyshop for a full restauration so I have the time to put things together regarding vems.
As I used the board for a 4cyl bmw518i with Hall pick up I need to resolder the board and adapt it for a 6cyl S38B38 with COP and VR pickup.
I bought a new VEMS wiringloom to Ensure a clean setup.
I have a few questions which I will post in the proper topic.
grtz
Tim

For a clean setup you need some BMW engine loom from related engine to cut up for connectors, not VEMS loom - VEMS loom has been engineered for racecars, where bunch of additional relays can be useful and too long wires tied with cable straps doesn't matter - for a classic BMW properly made custom loom would be much nicer :)

In progress of finalisation of the setup.
Things done:
- wireloom built from vems webshop loom adapted to S38 loom and connectors (kept entire crank/cam sensor wires and ignition wires)
- configured genboard for VR/VR
- soldered stepperchip and second LM chip
- repaired lcd display (did not show every line clearly visible)
- connected through VemsTune with old config and firmware (too old and not upgradable because of too old bootloader)
Things to do:
- upgrade bootloader with ordered isp cable
- configure new config
- finalise engine build with few more things (hoses, move steeringfluid + coolant reservoir)
Will post further questions in apropriate subforum.
Grtz
