Personally I'd bin the newer firmware and go for an older version, there would have to be a specific reason to update to something new.

Is the firmware uploading or does it still get halfway through and then die?

Are you using a USB->Serial converter?

That can often be a cause of upload problems, have you ever used another type of USB->Serial converter on your laptop?  If so then it might be a case of uninstalling all of the drivers you have and then ensuring that the driver of the current USB->Serial is installed properly.
Failing that can you find a laptop with a serial connection?

I had this problem after applying firmware 2009-04-30.  It counted to 03, then displayed F's.  It applied correctly, 0 checksum errors, but wouldn't do anything.  You then can't apply other firmwares, it gives an error along the lines of an unknown state.

I was able to get out of it though - when you first power the gauge up as soon as it starts to count up immediately apply the firmware dated 2008-02.  Get the command ready and then hit enter immediately as soon as it starts counting - if you get the timing right it will start to apply the earlier firmware.  Don't try the other 2009 one either - it did the same for me, stick with 2008.

No need for a new one if its just software, is it possible to extract the gauge and send it to me, I'll find a way of forcing the bloody firmware on ;D

Seems to be a common problem this as, mine is also doing it.  I've got not Heater counting before the display shows -FU -FFU

It just flashes -E- for a split second then goes straight to -FU -FFU.  When i try installing the older firmware it just says it can't connect.

I really hope it's not a case of sending gauges back to get them reprogrammed, it'll take me the best part of a day to get my out as i'll have to take half the dashboard out.
