Stuck in bootloader mode?

I have a customer trying to do firmware stuff (big mistake) to upload a temp file and it has gone bad.

USB-Serial adapter (of course)
Webshop Motronic55 ECU

We are using the newest VEMSTune 10-20, and uploaded firmware 1.1.27, along with PTC 2460_425 and 2063_256 files.

The firmware started to upload and then stopped, and displayed error windows about the bootloader mode or whatever. Now the ecu wont connect in MT or VEMSTune.

I had him bridge serial port 2-3 with the ECU OFF, then turn the ECU ON, did this a few times.

We tried turning the ECU OFF (before uploading again) after bridging the pins, was this wrong?

I cant get anything to work now. Any ideas?

In summary...
Short RS232 pins 2&3, turn on VEMS
change uploader file as specified.

We did the 2-3 bridge.... but the rest is a mystery to me

<<<take the serial plug out, and with the VEMS powered off, bridge pins2&3 on the VEMS serial plug (I use a steel paperclip).
Power up the VEMS, remove the wire then go to your installation directory and type:

tools\megaloader.exe firmware\upload.hex -wE 38400 -c com1

change com1 if necessary.

This will force an upload of the software and should put you back to where you were before you uploaded your configs>>>

The last part is what i dont get. What is the installation directory?

I've used PSITuner for uploading firmware on VEMS ecus that have firmware upgrade gone bad. It recongizes already on the startup that the board has problem and offers you to upload firmware. In most cases no need for shorting pins 2 and 3.

I've used it for uploading from 1.0.73 -> 1.1.44 and vice versa and it works ok though officially it's not supported.

Short version - PSI Tuner fixed it.

Long version:

I had the customer send me the contents of the "upload-firmware12x12.bat" file, and this was all there was:

call tools\upload-firmware.bat 12x12



I had him add this to the file (I had no idea where, so I said the bottom) and save it.

"tools\megaloader.exe firmware\upload.hex -wE 38400 -c com1"


He said it didn't work, but later used the PSI Tuner to upload the firmware again.

Now the car runs and connects in Megatune, but still flashes the bootloader error message in VEMSTune... hmmm oh well the car runs so we'll see what happens.
