VEMS on a Volvo T6 engine?
« on: December 02, 2008, 04:01:39 pm »
I'm trying to work out what i'll need, can anyone tell me what i'll need for a nice set up? If i've got some sort of idea, then I can go to a vems dealer and ask for further advice and purchase a kit without being totally clueless.

It's for a Volvo t6 2.9 from an S80 converted to rwd with a single GT35R sized or bigger turbo, it's mainly for motorsport and fast road. I am completely new to DIY modification and mapping, i've always paid someone to do anything above intermediate skill level stuff for me in the past.

These are the people I am thinking about going with: www.doyouneedabrain.co.uk

First off we need to spec. out the engine, fundamentally the crank trigger pattern and sensor - from there everything else will fall into place.

I've done a quick search, it looks like a 60-2

Can you confirm that your flywheel looks like that one?
Next you need to tell me what sensor you have :D

Yes it will be very similar, which sensor?

I assume that is a 960 engine, which will have a different crank profile to my knife edged version from the 2.9 twin turbo S80.

That claimed to be a T6 block when I searched.  The sensor in question sits above the trigger wheel and is stimulated by the trigger wheel.

Hi,
Sorting out what parts you need won't be a problem. What we need to be sure about is will they work on your engine!
Can you confirm that the trigger wheel on the flywheel is 60-2 and which type of crank position sensor you have pointing at it please? Popular choices are hall or VR.
Cheers,
Gavin :)

The T6 S80 engine has a 60-2 and a variable reluctance (VR) type sensor, the cam position sensor is also a VR type because of the VVT.

I'll be doing all the mapping myself (I hope), so do I *need* and extra gizmos to help me?

Hi,
Wideband lambda sensor and boss is a very good idea.
What sort of signal does the VVT require?
Cheers,
Gavin :)

What kind of coils does it have? I presume 4pin COP's? Do you know the type and pinout of these?

I have a potential customer with Estonian version of Lotus 7 replica (called Estfield), that has 2.3 (?) liter turbocharged engine from V70 or like. It has 60-2 trigger wheel on the flywheel and no wiring harness whatsoever.
