Golf VR6 distributor
« on: August 27, 2008, 08:58:26 pm »
Hi All.

I´m going to mount a vems on a Golf VR6 with turbo, this is a early model VR6 that runs distributor, and a single coil,
can i use that setup ,and if, how to configure it when running a 60-2 crank vr sensor?.

Thanks

These engines all have the 60-2 dont they?  If so, just fire the coil for each ignition event and you're good to go.

Some (or all?) newer 1.1 branch firmwares did not manage dwell when it needs to be shorter due to next spark in distributor mode.

 1.0.73 must work.

Thanks,

I have not made a distributor car before, and i wunder how to set it up in megatune, as the only thing i can write, when i choose coil , instead of multitrigger,
Is how many teeth that are on the wheel, so i dont understand how that will work ::)

Don't confuse triggering with the ignition.
Many of the early VW and GM cars had distributors and crank triggers.  If this one does not it will be worth considering retrofitting the 60-2 trigger.

I am sure that there are configs for that engine on the wiki, your trigger tooth will be okay, next trigger of 10 is out a bit, 60/3 = 20 - don't forget that you have two engine revolutions per cycle.

Then you're ignition is setup using the Settings->Ignition outputs, obviously its going to be 5..0 and then set each entry to the channel that has the coil on it

Aha, so i just pick the same output 6times, that was what i needed to know, thanks.

I got this started last sunday, but did not map any more,

I just got it running, and the tacho working, then we called it the day, and i will continue saturday,
I could see that i needed new temp files, as the cloolent temp, was showing the max of 102 degrees, when the water was 90 degrees,
I still find it strange that the water temp scale stops at 102degrees, that´s not so great..

But i will try different temp scales to make it work.
