Sudden Trigger Errors?
« on: May 13, 2008, 09:43:58 pm »
Had the vems running on my Capri for a few hundred miles now but today i started getting trigger errors at idle and high rpm.

Only thing thats different from before is the slightly tweaked ve table

Ive checked all the wiring and nothing is loose etc.

Im using the standard dizzy/coil setup

Anything else i should check?

Are these showing up as trigger errors on MegaTune?  Can you do a datalog to see if anything else is happening at the same time.
Strange that it should start all of a sudden like that.  Can you return the VE table back to how it was - I dont think its that but its nice to eliminate it all the same.

I tried reloading the old ve table but it made no difference.

This is the datalog where the errors started showing up.

Whatever the glitches are, they aren't causing huge RPM variations.  Do you have a HT lead breaking down or some other funny with the coil or amplifier?  This is where your trigger signal comes from after all...

Well this morning i coulnt even get the car to start :-[

The trigger errors cause spikes in the PW and flooded the engine.

Ill attempt to do a datalog later.

Update:

Well the spikes when cranking seem to have gone, but still no signs of life.  Plugs are wet so going to dry them and try again

Ok

Cleaned all the plugs and got her fired up again.  Took it for a spin round the block and under hard acceleration it stutters/pops really badly. Once i pulled up outside my house again the idle was really lumpy as well.

Here is the datalog and msq file

Its clearly only effecting the signal from the distibutor

Looks like could be something breaking down under load then.

While idling the voltage on the coil varies a fair bit., between 4.3-5.1 volts (ballasted).

Will have to start swapping igntion parts out to see what happens.

stu the popping is it intake or exhaust mate?
and when its stuttering whats the rev counter doing?
as when i had an ignition problem the rev counter needle twitched badly ended up being a dizzy breaking down :(

bugger, ignore the rev counter bit as you got a digital dash aint you :(.

this is a weird one, as after setting the car up sunday for you it ran well sweet until tuesday morning,

maybe its a v8 capri thing Rob ;)

Took the car out for a nice long this evening, and the errors are all but gone  ???

Just a bit of an uneven signal at high rpm acceleration but it doesnt cause a misfire anymore, other than that rpm is smooth as anything again.

will keep an eye on it and see how she does over the next few days.

Done some experimenting over the weekend.

I changed the coil and that made no difference to the errors.

I did however notice that the errors only occure at high rpm and heavy load (e.g. high or WOT).  I took the engine to 4000rpm on light throttle and got no errors. (see datalog)

Sounds like it could be the beginning of ignition amp problems.

Still having trouble with trigger errors.  Although sometimes they are there and sometimes not!

One other thing thats confusing me, is that I have the rev limit set to 7500, but in all the logs when the car misfires due to the trigger error, it cuts the fuel at anything over 6500 (PW goes to 0)

This is a log from a rolling road powerrun, nast misfire:

http://www.box.net/shared/0rqgrh6ccc

This is one from earlier in the same week, couple of errors, but nothing that causes fuel cut (WOT acceleration at 1289 seconds)  ???

This is my current MSQ:

any advice is much appreciated!

you must disalbe antilag system
Put input channel to DISABLE.
This is bug in megatune, every time you upload whole msq file into vems, als channel is set to 0.
