When asking for technical help at the very least let us know the version of firmware you are running.

engine stalls after start

My engine stalls after a start. I managed to start and do a few revolutions(2s) by playing with the variables in the VE-table and reqfuel, but then stalls no matter what I change in the afterstart settings.
I have a datalog and config file here: http://www.box.net/shared/upcms1pxcs
and here http://www.box.net/shared/6brf0yloow
Any solutions?
Thanks
Tim

Hi mate,

I see only an MSQ and a config there, what firmware are you running?

Timmo6

I'm running firmware 1.053 as its been a while I used the board again.

The VE table looks very lean - far too low at 10%

What is the needle on the Injector PW doing between the point of starting, and stalling?

Timmo6

not sure what the pw does before it stalls, but its very strange that when I download the config with the batfiles the tables are empty, there is nothing written in the tables notepad????

Are both files empty?  Are you letting the download window close itself?

EDIT/ OK now it downloads the tables as well
When I start the engine it runs for a 2 or 3 seconds on the cranking and afterstart settings but then dies.

I see in that log some huge spikes in rpm signal, sudden jumps to near 20000 rpm or over that.

Yeah I think I have a problem with the hallsensor setup. The vibrations of the engine are such that if the sensor is at<1mm of the trigger, it will touch the trigger and damage the sensor. If I put it at 1.1mm I have some trigger errors :(.
I am not sure this is the reason why the engine stalls at the same point everytime.

What trigger are you using?

Theres no way on earth that you're going to get the engine to run reliably.

Have you got your IACV connected up?  Take a look in the data log at IacDC and see what happens with it at the point where the car stops running.

First off all a little summary of my setup:

BMW 518i  4cyl m10b18 8valves
Ljet distributor
stock engine
stock 200cc injectors
vems controls 1 coil and 4 injectors individual, 1 fuelpump, lcd, firmware vemsMT1.0.53, 1widebandO2, IAT, MAP,...

The car has run perfectly with this setup previously, due to technical inspection I have removed the turbo and vems momentary.
In the meantime I have soldered the 30v Transient suppresion diode, made another wireharness, and soldered the AREF.
After this I tried to install the vems (first without turbo ) again but encounterd a few problems mainly due to the new harness.

I use a Hallsensor as primary trigger on a crankwheel with two teeth 180Ã,° apart. The sensor gave me some issues regarding not touching the trigger and not having triggererrors on the other side. But after a little manipulation it did its job perfectly!

As far as idle control I have only a mechanical electrical heated auxilary airvalve which is functioning as it should.
Now the engine dies after the afterstart. I played with the ve parameters but nothing changes???

If you've had to reduce the fuel to the levels I've seen on the tables you sent in the MSQ then there is a problem somewhere.

Adding the transient suppression diode means that the injectors close quicker, this means you need more fuel.

Timmo6

Ok I understand that, but when I initialy wanted to start the engine it smelled of excessive fuel and when cut back the cranking parameters it started but then died quickly.
I will try again tomorrow with more fuel in the ve table

Work on getting a clean cranking signal before you do much else.

Timmo6

Hi
I have a clean cranksignal now but no start?
Here is the cranking graph http://www.box.net/shared/1v1i73668k
