36 -1 -1 -1 -1 Trigger!
« on: January 14, 2008, 04:14:14 pm »
Hi,
If you imagine 2 teeth 180 degrees apart, label 1 A and the other B
I have a missing tooth either side of A and either side of B
This is built into the back of the Standard MPi Rover Mini flywheel fitted to my car, which I would like to use because a it's free and b it would cost me £120 to put a 36 -1 on the crank pulley!  :o
Can VEMS be setup to work with that?  :-\
Cheers,
Gavin :)

It can be made to work, but it will mean that you have to use a distributor, if you had port injection then you'd be forced to use batch injection, as the A-Series has a single injector it shouldnt be a problem.

Unless you have a cam trigger, then you can have coil on plug and sequential injection.

Hi,
As luck would have it I do :)
Theres a factory fit cam sensor which using Rover's expert engineering is basically the old fuel pump lobe!
How would I go about this then?
Also but OT, the forum is very slow / 404 errors any idea?
Cheers,
Gavin :)

You should be able to decode the trigger as the missing teath pattern is uneven. There are two teeth 180 degrees apart, but then the other two are uneven. One is 30 degrees after missing tooth, and the other is 40 degrees after.

Its just down to coding.

I've re-read what has been written here and see that I'm wrong - this pattern is not ideal, if you could get us a picture I'll pass it under the nose of the developers and see if theres likely to be a solution.

I've done all I can about getting the forum back up to speed, we'll see if it works or if I have to get on and find a new host.

Hi,
Thanks to Sprocket for this info ;)

MPi flywheel data

Missing teeth at 30, 60, 210 and 250.

There are 2 teeth between 30 and 60, 14 teeth between 60 and 210, 3 teeth between 210 and 250, 13 teeth between 250 and 30. 0 being TDC on #1/4 cylinder, 180 being TDC on #2/3 cylinder.

Is that the info I need?
I've phoned a friend for a picture ;)
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Hi,
They appear to have something for this on the darkside....

Rather than trying to work with a trigger than is not supported and not known to work why not look at something as simple as this:
http://www.vems.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=374.msg3709#msg3709

Works faultlessly - put the two bolts at 60deg BTDC and BBDC and use your cam trigger to give you the pulse for sequential.

Hi,
Thanks Rob, but I think I've found the answer?
http://www.vems.hu/wiki/index.php?page=MembersPage%2FYasecElise
Could you take a look at that for me please, as it means nothing to me at the moment, a programmer I'm not! ???
I love Google!
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Well you've certainly found something interesting there, I know that they had problems with that Elise but I think they have it running.
Theres a load of advanced filter triggering code that I have no direct experience of and that they've not actually put on the wiki.  Lets see if they can give us some more information - I've posted a question on that page, so we'll see how it goes.

Hi,
Thanks Rob, I've got to get my brain working again, I can't figure out the Wiki or this coding lark!  ::)
I found that from Google images!

Its really confusing when they speak of crank degrees in relation to the true TDC rather than the the VR sensor.

I recon that is exactly the same as the Mini set up, so I would give the config ago to start with, some one has already done all the hard work ;D If it does work, I think that a Virtual Pint should be forwarded to those who sorted it ;D
