Spare Analog Channels
« on: October 22, 2015, 03:07:02 pm »
Hello,

which MCP3208 channels can be used as spare inputs,
is there an overview ?
How are these inputs routed to the Econoseal-connectors ?

Regards,
Jan

Hello Jan,

There is an annotated description supplied with your ecu, was yours supplied without it? Iin that case please supply your ecu number, i'll look into it.

Best regards, Dave

Hello Dave,

I haven't purchased a Vems yet, I'd like to see if Vems
meets my requirements..

Old topic but kind of same issue.

Looking fo connecting radiator outlet and oil temp sensors.

ecu serial 1652

Edit: I believe that cannels 5 and 7 (ec18 pins 16 and 12) are the ones to use, not sure of the protection level.

Do you have pullups enabled on those inputs? then a temp sensor would work nicely, just need to set the curve.

Vemstune shows that  ch5 stays at 4.91  I guess its missing 0.08V because installed 2k7 resistor between ec18 pin 16 and ec46 pin 28 for clutch switch? (just resistor, switch has not been installed nor in use).

ch 6 and 7 shows in 4.99

Can you make assumptions based on those readings or do i have to test outputs?

P.S. 10 years old ecu pin out tells me that ec18 pin 6 is ch6/map in, i have external map so that makes me wonder what pin ch6 really uses?

If you have external map then then the CH6 is unpopulated to the ecu connectors. You would have to get at it from inside the ECU.
If I recall its one of the big solder pads.

You can make assumptions but they rarely are correct. Best to verify properly.

Did some testing today.
Ch5/ec18 pin 16 had external pull up from ec36 pin 28. Dropped to 0 when i removed the pull up connection. I guess the pull up needs to be there for temp sensor also.

Ec18 pin 12 was ch7, tested via 2k7 to ground.

Will look for the ch6,  according to picture of pin out, there is 2 empty pins where i might connect it? But, when i look the circuit board, there seems to be some kind of connections anyway on those pins?

And where is the ec18 pin1 (knock2) connected? there should be only 1 knock channel.
(i will be happy if i have 2 extra temp inputs and 1 switch input, just curious).

Compared this picture(from board with internal map) to my board.

On my board big blop with red dot is used to connect map signal.
But, on my board, place where other red dot is, is empty and that goes directly to mcp3208, without pull up, just like ch5 with pull up, off course.

More testing.
Found ch6 connection.
Also found out that board has 2nd wbo2 heater installed and seems like 2nd nerst and pump+ are there too.

I will remove 2nd wbo2 heater connection from ec18 pin17 and connect to ch6 instead. Then i will have 2 temp sensor inputs and 1 switch input.

But, then i got an idea of fuel level gauge(will install vemsdisplay and old instrument panel has to be removed)  ;D
I guess its doable if there is input for it. Edit: i woke up and realized it might need 2 wire sensor...
So:
ch7/ch6 temp inputs
ch5 switch input
ch4 egt
What are channels 0-3?  if undestood correctly ch3 is egt2, and when i look the board, there is everything else ready for egt2 exept ad597a, so if i disconnect egt hardware from ch3 pin , i can connect 5v pull up to it and use it same way as ch6/7?
