Opel redtop legend (C20XE), distributorless, motronic 2.8, has 2 sensors: crankshaft and camshaft.

Crankshaft sensor have 30+1 teeth, and camshaft has only 2 tooth...
What type are they? VR or hall? I'm almost certain that motronic 2.5 (dizzy version) has hall on camshaft. But what about newer version?

I've found that the crankshaft is definately VR, but cant find any info on the camshaft sensor.

Are you sure that Crankwheel is 30+1
All Opel engines with motronic i know, has 60-2 VR trigger.
And there should be hall on camshaft, at least i have..  ;D

Yes, yes... ;) Thank you... So, VR it is on crankshaft, with 60+2... :)

But on C20LET motronic 2.7, and older C20XE with motronic 2.5 have hall on camshaft... For sure... But motronic 2.8 (distributorless), not sure... I would say it is the same sensor as that one on crankshaft... I'll get you a picture or something... :D

Here it is... motronic 2.5 and 2.7 (dizzy type) uses hall on camshaft...
But later type motronic 2.8 (dizzyless type, coilpack) uses VR sensor on camshaft...  :o

Crank sensors on Vauxhalls can be either VR or Hall, depends on the age of the car, both fit the same hole, and use exactly the same reluctor wheel on the crank.

I know this because i had to fix my brothers 2l Omega when the timing belt destroyed the engine, cut a long story short, there are two sensors with a slightly different plug, one three wire one two wire, all dpends on the age, and what version ECU the engine is fitted with. Cross polination will not work  :-\ :D ;) ;)

This wont be a problem for you if you get hold of the VR sensor if you have the Hall, both fit the same hole ;)

Some VR sensors have 3 wires, as they have +, - and ground shield.

To test for hall you'll find that one of the pins will have +5V.

Here it is. So it has 3 wires, but looks like VR pickup. Also has that metal thing that just pases by...
On distributor, there is metal ring that has one window... This is totally different... Now I'm puzzled...

This is what mine looks.

DidnÃ,´t bother to remove it and take more pictures inside because yours looks same as mine..

mr_g

LOL  ;D

So you did upgrade your to dizzyless system... COP.. Right? Because motronic 2.7 has dizzy... So it's HALL... Thank you... Case closed... :D

What COP did you use? How did you mount them?

Tcal

COPÃ,´s are from VAG 1.8T engine, they fit straight, no mods needed, but that L-cover doesnÃ,´t fit anymore to original fixings.
IÃ,´m running those COPÃ,´s in wasted spark, so that camtrigger isnÃ,´t active now.

Tcal

They are also available at vems shop and their price looks to be 37.70€ x4 +wiring harness 14.50€, but iÃ,´d ask from your local VAG parts seller for those too.
Be sure to not to buy older ones because there was a faulty model few years ago, but if you buy them as original parts those bad ones are probably taken out of sale...
