Audi S8 with RS6 4,2tt engine
« on: December 21, 2015, 02:49:09 pm »
Hey fellows!

I thought it might be a good idea to both introduce my self here and also start some kind of project topic here as well.

Name is Tommy, 30 years of age (so far) living in Stockholm Sweden. I started my "mapping-career" on my saab 9-5 in 2008 and im also running/hosting the biggest forum for tuning saabs trionic systems on http://www.trionictuning.com. I have been working with both trionic systems, some VEMS and Nira installations on audi 5 cyl engines, also done some mapping on subaru/evo's.

Current VEMS Config:
http://www.trionictuning.com/VEMS/BCY_V1.vemscfg- "offline" startup configuration, work in progress.

VEMS Pinout document
http://www.trionictuning.com/VEMS/VEMS Pinout.xlsx

VEMS Specifications:
  • VEMS V3 (v3.6)
  • secondary_trigger HALL
  • primary_trigger EC36/27 VR
  • MAP connection 400 kPa simplenipple
  • Knock input channels 2
  • ignition driver 8
  • Flyback LowZ active flyback 8ch
  • EGT input x2
  • 1 x BridgeOutputDriver

Engine specifications
  • Audi RS6 4.2 liter biturbo (BCY)
  • Forged H-beam rods
  • 2x Borg Warner EFR-6758 Turbos
  • Precision 1260cc low ohm injectors
  • VAG 1,8T ignition coils
  • Fuelab Prodigy EFI pump (With built in controller, to be controlled by VEMS)

Transmission specifications:
  • 6 speed 01E (DGV) with wider 1st gear
  • Upgraded synchros + 1-2 shift collar from JHM
  • Trippleplate sachs clutch
  • Quaife front differential
  • SQS Rear differential
Soooo, to the project.

The project car is a 1997 Audi S8 with a manual 6 speed 01E transmission. Gearbox will get a complete overhaul with new synchros, trippleplate clutch, quaife differential for the front axle and a SQS differential for the rear axle.

The goal with the project is to build a real sleeper using a Audi RS6 BCY engine as source of the power.
The engine is completly overhauled with new bearings, con rods, gaskets and so on, everything to make it as reliable as possible.

New oil pump installed!

ECU Cable mark up!

New larger turbos! Borg Warner EFR 6758

VEMS 3.6 ofc.. :)

More info to come... Just had to start somewhere :)

Yea, really looking forward to get the engine fitted to the car (will be done this winter) and get her fired up. Got more or less everything sorted out, exhaust manifolds are to be welded, pressure pipes/oil/water for the turbos will be sorted out once we start to fit the engine to the car. Fingers are itching so to speak :D

This build got some love during the christmas weekend as well..

Heads Have been sort of stripped down, needed to replace the chain tensioner gliders in both heads so i took the oportunity to clean everything up while i was at it :)

Everything out, cleaned and sorted

Gliders where a bit poor so new are on the way, also orderd some new new gaskets.

Not really no.

I had the heads picked a part as you can see above, they are now both put together again with new chain tensioners, chains etc.
Vems is at Sävar turbo for some modifications and the car is about to be stripped to pieces.

How did you connect the 01E to the BCY?  They don't bolt on and I don't see an adapter plate.  Did you use the S8 block instead when you assembled the motor?

The 01E is bolt on to the BCY engine. Only needed to modify the bracket for the starter engine, other then that its bolt on, no adapters needed.

Really?  That is news to me... is there a different block in other RS6's?  I've only ever heard that the RS6 block was made with the large bell housing from the W12 cars and didn't directly accept the 01E... everyone was making adapters for the transmission and making special clutch kits/flywheels.
