AFreshTiny & calibration (WB Sensor, EGT sensor)
« on: October 28, 2007, 11:05:00 pm »
Hi,

Does the AFreshTiny need some calibration for either LSU4 or EGT sensor when bought?
I mean when I get several gauges and sensors together, are they matched to specific gauge or are they all universal?

As I understand the gauge uses some sort of standard data, that Bosch has given for the LSU4 sensors?
It doesn't matter where I have bought the sensor? I'm currently using a LSU4 sensor that came with Innovate LC-1 unit.
The readings should be the same with that sensor as the original sensor that comes with AFreshTiny?

Same goes to the EGT sensor?

Just want to make sure that everything is as precise as possible.

And one more thing, why is it important to use only the K-Thermocouple connector for EGT sensor wiring?

Regards
Mihkel

We calibrate the wideband using the calibration resistor built-in to the LSU sensor.  You can change the sensors between gauges and its all good.

You will need to calibrate the EGT sensor, info is here: http://www.vems.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=264.0

Thermocouple wire is made of dissimilar metal, if you change metal types then you set up different thermocouple junction which will ruin the readings.

Is the K-Thermocouple connector screws and nuts made from different metal?
I mean, is it important which wire goes to which screw (colors must match I know)?

So it's bad idea to solder the EGT sensor wires to the gauge wires?

The info on which colour goes where is under the EGT section here:

It is vital to keep the same metal types connected. Soldering is an interesting one because although you have the wire types mechanically connected you're adding a dissimilar metal so you have the potential of creating another thermocouple in the connection.  I'd stick to using the connectors.
