How to connect external FET to stepper/p259??

Suggest sticky for this topic.  Is there a diagram somewhere showing how to drive an external FET for higher current duty than the stepper and p259 allow?  This is for safety with my ISV currently (pun!) on the stepper.  I am running full sequential V8 and have no extra FET.

Or can I just put fets inside on ec18 pins 6 and 12? Still suggest sticky for others to build this hack :)
