Electric power steering signal (EPAS) output?
« on: April 17, 2015, 06:37:01 pm »
I am in the middle of retrofitting a Corsa C EPAS column to my Porsche. It is a widely known modification to locost people, rally, drift, racecars etc.

It needs a speed signal input for varying assistance, rpm input (so that it wouldn't draw current unless engine is running) and some more. Here's a more detailed description: http://www.super7thheaven.co.uk/blog/corsa-c-electric-power-steering-epas/

RPM signal is easy, just share it with tach output. I use stepper output when these are not in use so through 100ohm resistor it should work well. But VSS is a bit more tricky. Obviously Corsa EPAS controller expects certain amount of pulses while cars are different. One solution would be to use VR-to-HALL converter (this allows the pulse count dividing also) but neater would be to have VEMS capable of outputting VSS (with configurable dividers, like boost gauge for example).
As this EPAS mod is common, it would be a good sales argument if it would support it and could be easily configurable.

Any other thoughts?

Agree, can be very usefull for older cars as well. And when you're at it, make a versalite analouge output (pwm with curve toward any coosen parameter) I still miss this feature for eq my lambda meter
