MAT temperatures
« on: May 27, 2012, 03:11:04 pm »
What is the effect of MAT temperatures, on the fuelling?

Looks like mine is about 53degc during running.

Is this too high?

cheers

scott

I guess it depends on if this is actual air temp or heatsoaked temp into the sensor.

53deg sounds very high. Does your intake system have alot of surface area? Aluminum? how is the sensor mounted?

the sensor was mounting in a stainless steel pipe from the air filter that connects to the throttle plate, and checking the temps of the pipe this was also 50degc.

So i removed the sensor and mounted the sensor in a rubber o-ring washer, the panel mount type where it fits in the hole both sides, as it has a recess in the washer.

Running the car today has the MAT temps down to 26degc, so much better i think.

Another problem sorted if nowt else.

cheers

What were the conditions for the high MAT?  It is most likely heatsoak at low load/idle.  This can be dealt with satisfactorily with the MAT/RPM enrichment table.

yes i am sure it was heat soaking. its been like that since i built the engine and install my vems.

I problerly need to change the metal inlet pipe its located in for something else that doesnt soak as much heat, some 76mm plastic or carbon pipe would do nicely....

I've been looking at the pipercross venom filters that are fully incased, and are also supposed to stop hot air been drawing in to the engine, not cheap, just not sure how it would fit my bonnet or setup.

Maybe someone on here has any exprience of these also.
