EGO flicking on and Off
« on: May 14, 2012, 02:01:22 am »
I haven't hooked up my computer in a while, but I decided to hook it up, check for updates and play with my idle a little bit.  I noticed that my EGO is flicking on and off extremely rapidly.  My TPS is stable, so I was wondering what else can turn off EGO (the settings in the EGO Settings screen are all ok and my operating conditions were within those limits).  The car runs well, but I thought this was strange.  I was working with idle, so the IATs are really high, but I couldn't find an ego limit on IATs.

Anyway, here is a log file:

Thanks,

I see crazy cylinder power values in your log. Does engine runs evenly?
Also I see conflict under ignition outputs.

Reach or Lean limit should be less then 20.

Engine IS firing on all 4.  Ill update everything and see what happens.  Should have hit verify before posting!

Thanks,

Just went back through my old config files and that conflict on my ignition outputs has been like that for a few months!!  The car has been running fine.  Something else much of been set to the same output?  Had to have been something that wasn't in use but I am going to try and figure that out.

Thanks,
Jim

What IGN output you use for second coil? IGN7 Ec36-10?

Try to reconfigure either idle solenoid channels to 4,i5 or rewire ignition output to one from drop-down menu.

Did something change in a firmware or VEMSTune?  My ignition driver should be Driver 7 (and Driver 1).  This is Pin 10 on the EC36 pin connector!  However, that is no longer an option!!  This has been working fine (even with the CONFLICT in place), but I cannot change it back now (I have old config files that are still set up correctly that I can default back to).

My IACV is set up on Drivers 5&6 (EC36 pins 12&24) so there is no conflict here, only that VEMSTune will not longer let me select the correct ignition driver for my second coil!  My car is a 4 cyl, but my VEMS box was set up with all 8 ignition drivers as high current devices (capable of driving ignition coils).

It wont let me take a screen shot with the list in VEMStune. But here is the list of possible ignition drivers that VEMSTune says I have. (Under Ignition Outputs Visual)
1: Ignition Output 0 (7A) Grounding, EC35 Pin 35
2: Ignition Output 1 (7A) Grounding, EC35 Pin 33
3: Ignition Output 2 (7A) Grounding, EC35 Pin 34
4: Ignition Output 3 (7A) Grounding, EC35 Pin 36
5: Ignition Output 4 (7A) Grounding, EC35 Pin 11
6: Stepper Output A (1A) Push/Pull 12/0V, EC18 Pin 4
7: Stepper Output B (1A) Push/Pull 12/0V, EC18 Pin 10
8: Stepper Output C (1A) Push/Pull 12/0V, EC18 Pin 5
9: Stepper Output D (1A) Push/Pull 12/0V, EC18 Pin 11
Any ideas?

Jim

I just downgraded my firmware and re-uploaded an old firmware (with CONFLICT still in as my second coil) can the engine actually runs.  Setting the second coil to a Not Connected output results in an engine that starts after about 20 seconds of cranking and is clearly running on 2 cyl.  I don't know why the cyl power levels are "crazy" but I have no insight into what is normal, so that value is fairly useless to me as a diagnostic tool.

And changing the EGO Lean Limit to 10 stopped the EGO flag from flickering on and off.  Should I start a new thread about my Individual power / Ignition Driver problem?

Ignition driver solution is in my previous post. Ign outputs are "paired" internaly for some reason. You use one pair twice.

What are the pairings?  0+1, 2+3, 4+5, 6+7?  So if I use driver 1 as ignition, I cannot use driver 0 as anything but ignition (no IACV...)?  That seems absurd!

Also, why is it that only 4 high power ignition drivers from EC36 show up in the list? I have all 8 populated as high current drivers, and they are on EC36 not EC18.  Should it not look like this: http://www.vems.hu/wiki/index.php?page=GenBoard%2FManual%2FIgnitionOutput

Maybe I am just not understanding it properly.  Here is what I can tell you, maybe you can guide me as to what wires I need to swap on my connector to get it to work.

Here is the current set-up
Ignition Coil 1: EC36 Pin 36 (Driver 3)
Ignition Coil 2: EC36 Pin 10 (Driver 7)
IACV Coil 1:  EC36 Pin 12   (Driver 5)
IACV Coil 2:  EC36 Pin 24   (Driver 6)
BLOWN IGBT: EC36 Pin 34  (Driver 2)

So, with Driver 2 being blown, I cannot (or shouldn't?) use Driver 3 either?

Is this the Most efficient way to do it?
Ignition Coil 1: EC36 Pin 35 (Driver 0)
Ignition Coil 2: EC36 Pin 33 (Driver 1)
IACV Coil 1:  EC36 Pin 12   (Driver 5)
IACV Coil 2:  EC36 Pin 11   (Driver 4)
BLOWN IGBT: EC36 Pin 34  (Driver 2)

Or can I just move my IACV Coil 2 to Driver 4 and be done with it?

Thanks,
Jim

No idea why it is so!

Most rational combination you can find by playing with your config offline. This is exactly how I find the conflict in your tune.

Update:
Just tried 1.1.99 and got very same results: flickering ego flag (seems Ego still active) and weird cylPower....
M20 with camsync and COPs.

Good to know that was a firmware bug.  Ill stick with 1.1.95 for the time being then.

Haven't had time to play musical connections in my EC36 yet, but I will update when I do.

Just swapped my wires around. Ignition is now driver 0 and 1.  Iacv is not 4and i5.  Nothing changed in behavior but now my ecu is set up like the almighty developers intended,  which is probably a good thing.  No more conflict either.  My only validation warning is the low map thing which I might get around to eventually...

Thanks for the help!
