Subaru 6&7?
« on: July 14, 2007, 04:46:53 pm »
Hello!

Does anybody know working example using Subaru stock trigger wheels?
I must put VEMS on early Impreza 2.0Turbo engine. Must be race-ready at the end of August.

Gints.

Yes, but not reliably and not in a car at the moment...

I have a half-finished prototype harness adaptor for VEMS in early Scoobs and I know Pat has 36-1 tooth wheels that can be fitted in place of the standard silly subaru trigger wheel...  Might get you out of hte August problem.

Meaning my old WRX engine is on a stand and I don't have a chassis to put it in yet!

I doubt it would take much to get it all reliable, but I am still spending a lot of time on the TVR

We have VEMS running off the Subaru triggers using the 1.1.x firmware.
We'll need to hunt down the trigger config.  Then is should be as simple as working out the injector impedence (I think they're low on the early models), and either splicing into the existing loom or making an adaptor using one of these ECU connectors here...

Injectors are low impedance certainly up to the shape change in 2003.

I have played with the 1.1.x firmware on my spare VEMS with my STi to see if it triggered when I cranked the engine.  It did, but there were lots of trigger errors.  (Most likely this is my fault for making the trigger config up!)

It's nice to have a bit of time to play with things other than TVRs ;)

Hi There,

Is there any update on this Subaru trigger, i´m planing on putting a Vems on a Legacy turbo, the only one with cops..
But i belive it to be the same trigger wheel as up to 01-.

As far as I know, the trigger works on the latest firmware :D

Not tried it properly on my old MY96 "virtual Impreza" yet because I've got too many other installs happening :(

I tried the subaru trigger using the .wav stim but wasn't able to get it working. Admittedly I didn't spend much time playing with it.

Did "we" hunt down the trigger settings  ;)
Then i will give it a go with the old legacy,
is there some special requist to what pin is going to be used for what?,
the iac inj6 and inj7 right, what about tacho out,and AC cut relay, that shuts off AC when flooring it,or above map setting,
Right now there is a extra pin needed to run waterpump, to the chargecooler, but that might asweel be in the loom, so the legacybuys can use it asweel.

any requist, and i will try it out..

If you shout on the wiki about it, I'll shout on the channel and wave your URL about.

We have some information - the Subaru trigger is supported in 1.0.xx NOT 1.1.xx (I'd use 1.0.73)

The following settings can be used to default the Subaru/Fiat Stillo trigger settings.
You will still need to adjust the ign_tdcdelay (TDC after the trigger in MegaTune) to tune the ignition advance.
primary_trigger=29
toothrel_normal=01
toothrel_missing=F0
tooth_wheel=02
trigger_tooth=00
another_trigger_tooth=03
secondary_trigger=59
tooth_wheel_twidth1=00
tooth_wheel_twidth2=00
crank_minper=00
cam_sync_r_edge_phase=00
cam_sync_f_edge_phase=00
reset_engphase_after=04

The full details are found here:

Thanks i just saw it on Wiki,
That´s great news..

Marcel writes it´s NOT supported in 1.1.x, ,
I will give it a try with 1.0.73, and see if i can get it running.

Thanks,
Skassa

Yes, you're right: 1.0.xx - I've edited the previous post to correct this :(

Are you talking about these trigger wheels?

Crank:

Cam:

I bought a Vems V3.3 at the beginning of the year and have not installed it yet because of the trigger wheels.
Didn't had the time to do a custom trigger wheel and there was no help in wiki regarding the stock trigger wheels.

Does Vems use both crank and cam sync for Subaru trigger? (I suppose it does, because the crank wheel has no missing tooth)

I was just about to sell the Vems and search for something plug&play but if the trigger case is now solved then I might give the Vems a try.
