High quality loom wire
« on: August 15, 2011, 07:51:09 am »
Hi guys, I am in the process of tidying up all the wiring for the VEMs. I wonder if you could can point me to the right direction on where to get the good quality and flexible wire which is similar to the wiring looms that comes with VEMs.

Thank you in advance.

You really need to upgrade the firmware to the new 1.1.9x version - the acceleration enrichment and accel retard functions will really make your response improve.

Vems uses TXL grade automotive wire.. search it you will see.. it has thinner wall and tightly strand wire so it makes the overall wire diameter smaller.

gxl auto wire is what pepboys or autozone your basic local auto parts store has for automotive wire..

if you are in the states there are 2 good companies that sell on ebay for TXL grade wire.. just search for it.. depending what lengths and colors you need is who will be cheapest.

i buy it in 500ft rolls. and 5-10 colors/ rolls at a time.. so its cheaper then buying 1 or 2 color of only 50- 100 ft

Yes, it is about time to upgrade the firmware.

I haven't drove my car since my last competition 12 months ago, I managed to temp. solve the FETs problem by using VNP5N07. But it failed again yesterday when I decided to hold the rev limit at 8500rpm 3rd gear for 10sec.....

So, I have ordered IRF640N to give it another go... Finger crossed and I am not giving it up yet!

Really strange this FET blowing business, I'd forgotten that it was happening.  Not seeing many people on here with that issue, it must be solveable.

Also I'm told that its possible that the driver could get damaged when the old FETs blew.
It is suggested that if you have these issues, use IGBTs for the injectors.

Hmm... useful.. any idea where to get and which IGBTs? Plus, are they a direct FET replacement without any other tweeking?

Bare in mind, the last FETs has lasted for a while under normal and fast driving condition.

It will only blow when I'm in drifting mode.. ie.. Holding at rev limiter for 10sec or more...

I will check all my ground too

Yes but theres no reason why it shouldn't last while on the limiter...

If IGBT is a more robust chip, would you be able to recommend which and where I should get it? Also, is it just a simple replacement like FET?

They're exactly the same as a FET although they're not insulated on the heat sink so you will need to make sure that the pink isolator stuff in the inside of the box is big enough.
You can get them from the VEMS shop http://shop.vems.hu/catalog/ignition-driver-p-49.html?osCsid=a794046ab688500541a720a6b7e850a3 The insulator sheet is also cheap to buy http://shop.vems.hu/catalog/ignition-driver-insulator-sheet-p-75.html
