thought i might ask here...but this aint vems releted, but worth a try...

does anyone know what the definition of kit car is for the MOT?

is it a "Q" reg, or does it have to say on the V5????

trying to work out what emissions test my car should have, and i am sure its a kitcar, but need all the info i can if i am to tackle the MOT tester with this information.

as my car was failed today on emissions when i am sure that i only require a visual check.

any help welcome.

It is based on the age of the engine, but you have to provide evidence

Yes, it goes on the age of the engine, assuming you can show documentation the tester will accept.  (Hint - the engine block came from a car earlier than 1992 didn't it?)

You should have no trouble tuning the low load and idle bits to pass any test with VEMS.

going back to MOT station today armed with some paperwork to speak to tester, can only try and explain how i think it should be tested, otherwise i might have to make an appeal to VOSA and go down this route....

At the moment i cant trust my lambda readings.....so cant really tune anything with confidence to pass....i have 5 more days....then will have to pay another £50 to have another test.

readings on my netbook at MOT time showed lambda 1.00 yet MOT tester showed 0.94.....hence i failed, so i either have a faulty lambda or leaking exhaust....not sure yet.

been back to the garage this morning and garage admitted been incorrectly tested and issued me MOT certificate.

so now be legal after sorting tax out over internet....then off to do some driving at last.....already 3 months later than normal for getting my car on the road.

kit cars before 1998...only need a smoke test...anything after needs SVA test & full emissions.

lucky me.....mines 1997.

Why don´t  you bring it around mine and we can just finalize the tuning once and for all?

cheers....i am seriously thinking this is the best idea....

i've got a few daft problems to iron out, like leaking sump & eaxhust to sort, then i will discuss options.

A leaky exhaust would show a high lambda at the tail pipe, not a low.
