Current iButton Status
« on: February 27, 2010, 02:44:09 pm »
Reading the wiki and this forum, the most recent discussion on the iButton functionality in VEMS occurred about a year ago. At that time, from what I understand, the VEMS firmware didn't contain whatever code was necessary.

Has there been any progress in that time?

I'm currently planning/building the VEMS loom for my A-Series mini/kit car project - the only 'security' the car has is a home-made immobiliser which serves to isolate the power to coil. The iButton feature in VEMS would be a perfect replacement and save me some much needed space behind the dashboard!

Hi Mate, don't think I am being blunt, but don't bother. The developers have no concern for it :-\

That's a real shame. The wiki has some interesting ideas about using it.
Does it work at all (at least enough to switch a relay)?

Good question!
Is any iButton user around?

I suppose - no.

There are no users around as no one knows how to use it :D

I for one would be a user if there ws support for it in the firmware. It has already been said that its simple enough to code it into the firmware. and that is the problem. there is no firmware for it :-\

BAM! Out of nowhere the iButton is back!  That's awesome!

I think it's a great feature to offer (anti-theft), especially since some/many cars with standalones are usually worth quite a bit of money.

Blimey - it's a been year already!

So now that I've finally got VEMS up and running my ignition system, and seeing as its now in the firmware, I thought I'd come back to the ibutton feature. I've ordered the necessary parts, and had a read of the wiki, but I'm still not clear on how exactly to wire up the DS2480B - where, for example, does it connect to the EC36?

Anyone else tackled the ibutton yet?

in order to use the ibutton, do you have to open the ECU and weld the chip? Or do newer versions of ECU already have the chip implemented?
