bluetooth connection
« on: February 11, 2011, 03:10:22 pm »
hi all,

I gather bluetooth connection with a vems ECU would be out the question, and needs a better brain than mine to work out if this is possible.

So i found this.

http://www.amazon.com/Adapter-Bluetooth-Wireless-Technology-GBS301/dp/B000CPMBO6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1297435568&sr=8-1

A serial RS-232 to bluetooth adapter......hmmm i thought ....no more cables to my netbook....could i use my phone to connect to vems???

But my question is...will it work...in theory is reads ok...but any thoughts from people.

cheers

scott

The reviews are not really good about that item and because it needs AC power to work... it seems a little bit pointless.

wasnt bad for first try at looking afterwards i found this.

http://serialio.com/products/adaptors/BlueSnapStd.php

Which has a 9-volt battery attached...so doesnt need adapter....which would be useful.

But this is the best one i found...

http://www.lm-technologies.com/business/adapters/LM048_Bluetooth_Serial_Adapter/

And can be powered 3 different ways, one through pin 9 on the DS9 connnector, which is could be really useful, and only takes 5 volts.

I tried bluetooth connection to vemstune, and it comes with some problems due to the way windows handles BT serialports. The bluetooth connection is opened once an application tries to access the com-port, and in this case vemstune has to disconnect from the com-port before switching the bluetooth module off. If i switch off the ECU(that also powers the bluetooth thingy), the port will hang. Currently the only way to get this to work is to always disconnect from ecu before switching the bluetooth device off.

Its a cool idea.. just sucks you need a ac power or battery to use the bluetooth adapter.

I have my com cable in the glove. so when the laptop is not in the car i dont see the wire anyway..

Do you have sd card?  that helps too

Have you fixed this problem? I have BT adapter from vems, I want to connect vemstune to V3 with BT, but I don't know how.
