trying to find a problem i am having with my serial connection to my vems.

And trying to rule out some questions first.

Should the earth wire (pin 5) on the serial port go to the ecu ground or SV2 header pin 3?

Whats the best wire to use for wiring the serial port....ie does it need to be shielded, and what is the best gauge wire to use.

cheers

It should go to the ECU ground.
I have used shielded microphone cable (as it has two wires and a ground), CAT5 network cable, and multicore shielded cable.
Using some thick core microphone cable has always suited me best.

a decent option that is alot cheaper then some shielded wire can get is go to home depot or lowes. they have alarm wire that is shielded 18awg i have used for comm in the past.
