Upgraded to 1.1.81 but now won't start

Evening

Been running version 1.0.73rc2 for the last couple of years and decided to take the plunge and upgrade to 1.1.81 this weekend to take advantage of some of the new features, unfortunately I can't get the engine to start.  I used Mattias' config file and then input my settings and tables.

I've got sparks and I've got fuel, I can't check timing until Tuesday (need a helper and a light).  Suspect areas are primary trigger settings and anything to do with alpha-N as the fields are quite different between the two versions.

Any suggestions appreciated.

You shouldn't put "fuelcut above" to 100 kPa, could be a bit hard to start when there is no fuel.

Do you really, really have to use the "advanced filtering" for the primary trigger? If not, disable it.

You need to define the reference tooth table, it should contain : 0, 18, 0, 18
And your ignition output table must use 4 output rows. Just repeat your pattern twice: I259-3, I259-2, I259-3, I259-2

There are probably a few other tidbits that need work, but this should help a lot.

Thanks for the info Mattias, looks like a few possible culprits then... I'll change as advised and hopefully be running again by tomorrow evening.

Evening

I've made all of the changes as suggested, it isn't running yet.  I managed to get a timing light on it and it looks to be massively out, I couldn't get a reading on cylinder 1 so I put the signal on cylinder 2 which gave a cranking reading of approx 25bdc.

I've looked at my old settings and the new ones and the only thing that could be different is that I've got my ignition settings round the wrong way (but they do look right), what should I change?

The most likely option looks to be to swap the ignition output around:

from:0= I259-3, 1= I259-2, 2= I259-3, 3= I259-2,
to     0= I259-2, 1= I259-3, 2= I259-2, 3= I259-3.

My old settings of ignition output 0 = I259-3 (pin 36) and 1= I259-2 (pin 34), is this to be expected as part of the change in firmware?  I'm more comfortable changing settings if it's a known difference between the two versions, what I don't want to do is start changing something that might not be related.

Would changing the table order from 0,18,0,18 to 18,0,18,0 have the same effect as this wasn't defined in the previous config?

The reference tooth table should not be touched, it is written the way it is to get the system to sync with the trigger wheel faster.

Rotating the ignition output table one step effectively shifts the cylinder events 180 degrees (on a 4-cyl/4-stroke engine) and that is exactly what you should do. If you think about it, if cyl 2(&3) is igniting where cylinder 1(&4) should be, you're 180 degrees off.

This part of the upgrade is difficult to automate..

Thanks Mattias, that got it to start first time.

I've got a few more settings that I now need to check as it's stinking of fuel on start-up, unfortunately it's too late to have a proper play this evening without upsetting the neighbors, but feeling pretty chuffed to hear it start again.
