High boost ethanol coil options.
« on: April 08, 2010, 10:08:12 am »
I need to get me a new ignition system to finish off my setup.  I have used previously msd coils wasted spark with dis2 amplifier box on this engine setup with pump fuel and mild boost.

Now with availability of E85 I want to get a setup that will work good first time on more extreme applications like high boost and e85.

What are you guys running/suggesting  cop ,coil pack, cdi drivers....

Application is vw 16v turbo.

thanks

A distributor and MSD 7 would be better.

It's tough to find something better than what you already have (CDI).

Is his DIS2 actually CDI?

The DIS boxes are all capacitive discharge, AFAIK.

I don't think the thread creator has tested the limits of his current ignition system, I suggest he does just that before trying to cure a problem that does not exist. A lot of things could be wrong in the tune of an engine to cause mis-fires, not to mention ignition plugs, leads, coils and ignition boxes. From what I can tell this setup is very potent and should hold enough spark for 200 hp/cylinder if necessary.

The problem is that his LS1 style coils are dead. And he´s needing go shopping again.

Since his DIS is CDI I´d agree with Mattias and stick with that.

I see. Then stick with the DIS-2 and get a pair of wasted spark coils compatible with CDI, preferrably recommended to work with your unit. The "Mitsubishi/Dodge" coilpacks from MSD come to mind.
