VEMS source code and where to buy unit

I have not found answers to 2 questions that I still have before purchasing a VEMS unit:

1. Where can I get source code? If I can't get it, what does it take to become a contributing developer? I am a professional developer, and I was thinking of giving drive-by-wire a shot (which does not seem to be implemented yet). I am familiar with the AVR instruction set and have a few spare devices on which I can test servo control code.

2. Where should I buy a VEMS unit? I priced out similarly spec'd units at vems.us and vems.hu and the .hu price is quite a bit cheaper even with the crappy exchange rate. I have active coils, so I don't need the IGBTs. Is that the difference (the US version seems to have them by default)? Or is there some other rule for where to buy stuff?

I apologize if this has been covered or if the topics are taboo, but I could not find this information anywhere.

Hi Wulfgang,

1. You have to apply to Hungary for the source code, and most on here who've tried have not had any success.  The reason that drive-by-wire isnt supported is becuase its a Legal nightmare - the liability issues are terrifying, I know that there are a number of other ECUs that have the function, but have it disabled for legal reasons.

2. PM me with details of your project and your location and I'll put you in touch with the right place/person to buy from, quite often someone somewhere has specialised in a particular setup and will be able to give you better levels of support.

The only topics that are taboo on here are where people try to sell crap that is not related to ECUs or the nobel pursuit of messing around with cars

Well, I guess I'll go with the backup plan if I can't get the source: make up a servo controller and mix the input signal with PWM idle control from the VEMS.
