SD Card notes
« on: May 17, 2010, 08:37:06 pm »
I'm wondering who is using the SD Card logger as often as I do, and what your experiences are.

I'm using 1.1.70 and 1.1.74 Firmware, and VemsTune 4-28

I see two problems.

1) Log Saving:
The logs save properly on the first try only about 25%-50% of the time.
When it doesn't work - the blue progress bars will not show any progress, and the "saved" window will pop up.
(A file name is created, but it will be empty)

When it does work - the progress bar will go from 0-100% in "chunks", so I'm not sure if the software
is running poorly on my computer that might be causing this.
I don't have any other programs running on the computer when I save the logs.

2) Log titles/number of logs:
I will often see 3 logs created after an erase-start - even though the engine was started only one time
since the erase-start procedure.

And the logs are titled with (I assume) the number of minutes/seconds of log time. But I get logs with,
for example, 8:42 even though the log time is only 2-3 minutes. Then there will be 2 other logs of only :15 of :30
or so each, with nothing in them.

I don't think the ecu or SD card stops working due to vibration. Because the run (drag racing) shows up fine in the datalog (when I can finally find it)

Has anyone else had this happen?

Because of serious problems with the serial port software part of VemsTune, I advice you to try recent versions. The new nightly builds using SFILE (new serial port lib) might solve your problems. It has made it possible to make firmware uploads and normal tuning on computers which previously bluescreened or had corrupt communication.

- Thanks for the reply. I wasn't aware of these newer versions of the VEMSTune.

Below is the link for others:

Do note that with SFILE you need to set ECU communication timeout and delay to 30 ms and 40 ms, respectively.
Also expect only the most recent new bugs.. ;)

I did not want to start a new topic, but my problem is that I´m not able to get connection to the SD card at all.
I ordered the ecu with SD card, it´s v3,6 and right now I´m using 1.1.81 FW, I tried it also with 1.1.70, but the problem was the same. I erased card and started log, after a few minutes I tried to read it... it says something like, there is no vems log files and it does not show me any compatible devices?
What to do? try?

Do you stop the logging? Not sure if that makes a difference but I do it. I also know that I only got logs if I used the extended view menu.

No I have never tried to stop logging first... I´ll try it later.
I also have tried different stuff to get the logs, also the extended view, but there are all fields empty.

Couple of stupid questions - you do have the ECU Logging set to SD Card right, and using the latest VEMSTune? You also ran the engine right - it won't log unless the engine's running, each on/off session is a log.

Yes, the logging is set to SD card and I am using the latest vemstune (tried also older ones just in case).
You mean when I choos the start option the car needs to run? I do not recall right now, did it ran or not :P I think I tried it both ways, but I-ll try again.

Well the start just starts logging period. But there won't be any logging until you start the car. Each time the car runs it'll save a log.

Yes, then the car ran before I tried to get any logs.

With VemsTune previous to 2010-08-19 I had trouble downloading SD card logs, or even getting the overview of the logs on the card. Try lowering the communication speed for the download (Prefs -> ECU comms) if you still have trouble with the download halting mid-way.

I have a race coming up in 2 weeks where I will be working with 3 of my cars with SD Logging.  I haven't had the chance to try the lower comm speed, so i will try that and the 8-19 VemsTune and report the results. I'm on a Windows XP laptop and a regular Serial port.

I found that if I used SDcard overview(old) before doing the extended overview it seems to connect better.

No idea why
