Tach out divider setting

How do you go about setting the divider when using the internal tach out?

It seems that around 10-16 is in the right area.  Is it linked to the number of teeth?

The tach isn't that accurate (after getting my speedo calibrated I took my gearbox out to swap it as I decided it wasn't the ratio I thought it was as the erpm/mph didn't correlate.  Got it out and counted the teeth on the ring gear and it was actually the tacho that was wrong ;D)
